Well, I was wondering how come so many enquiries for information regarding servicing of so many obscure brands(Tecnik/Smeg/Diplomat/Asco etc etc) of whitegoods get on this site. I now know the answer as I am getting the ‘overspill’ on my own business website.

It is because of these renegade supplimentary websites that tack on to site like mine and pass on loads of c**p (cyber middlemen)!!!!

Now I find I am getting (7 days a week/night and day) phone calls from people all over the UK wanting info on who can fix their sodding Smeg or whatever dishwasher!!

My problem is that I make no reference to these brands at all on my site, nor have I any intention of repairing them. I need a website to stave off local competition but at this rate I seriously am considering pulling the plug on it totally. Statistically I am getting 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} trade from it and 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} crap!

You will get that as you may well be the only local whitegoods repairer that’s got a website and so you get the call. If you look at the brands that you mention, analyse the customer that buys these brands you’ll probably find that they are the type of customer that will use the internet to find a repairer when the need arises. Either that or they’ve had no luck in finding someone and so trawl the net.

I’m sorry, but I am not sure how to describe these guys sites other than ‘cyber middlemen’! But for example sites like ‘www.upmystreet.com’ have somehow got me associated with Smeg and/or the like.

It would be nice and professional of me I know to be able to have a database of telephone numbers to hand every time I get someone from the web, with which I could say…”I am so very sorry but I do not repair SMEG/DIPLOMAT/TECKNIK/HYGENA or whatever rubbish, but I do have the number of their local agent, simply re-dial them 01 blah blah blah……..! But sadly I don’t have such information, nor it seems do those that smirf the Wee Willy Winky! 😉

Then why not just guide them to here and post up who or where they are, someone will be more than glad to help I’m sure.

Of course that is what I do, my problem comes when I get back to the office and I have half a dozen messages left on my answering machine from people with mobile telephone numbers. Who turn out to be spread all over the UK looking for a Smeg agent.

I am going to change my answerphone message to “..please leave a message after the tone but if you want your Smeg fixed, and you live in Bridlington, Cheadle Hulme, Sevenoaks, Knotty Ash, Wombwell or Aberdeen then please go to http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk and try your luck there, oh! and have a nice day!”
