ParticipantWent to a w/pool Awm 5104 yesterday – the bearings had gone damaging the heater and putting a small hole in the front tub.I told customer it was BER.However out of curiosity the customer wanted to know the price of the parts.Front tub, rear tub, drum and heater total retail price £592.97.Customer was cured of ever buying a whirlpool again.Nearly every call I get on whirlpools is a bearing fault – just go for the callout and to rubbish whirlpool – serves them right.

KeymasterWhirlpool used to be a good machine, but you can tell when they dropped the warranty from ten years to eight and then to a one years warranty that the quality had gone down hill, the price of the parts howver has gone through the roof

It’s the everyday story of my life. I’m in Ireland and the prices of their spares is rediculous – apart from that your working off a dated cd-rom – namely SIOS and if your unsure you have to take the time to get an up to date price from Whirlpool which you KNOW the customer is going to most likely reject.
Fact is – what they are really trying to sell is their BS guarantee

I had another AWM 4505 bearings go a couple of weeks out of guarantee. The customer ‘Phoned to be fobbed off so she emailed customer service who replied that they give a two year g’tee on major parts and would be doing it FOC. Yep, I was happy as I had sold it to her. Get your customers to try it.

It’s odd, at one time I was getting loads of Whirlpools with bearing or spider failure. I brought home a newish machine with blown main module a few months ago, hoping to get another machine with bearings gone and make one good one out of the two. So far I’ve not found a suitable machine to BER so I’m still waiting. Perhaps it’s just as well though as it would be difficult to honour any guarantee on a secondhand Whirlpool.

Sometime ago when I was heavlly into reconning machines I was somewhat forced to take Whirlpool as eveyone else were picking Hvr/Hpt Zan etc, that said once I had worked on them they gave me very little grief and any spares that were needed I used donor machines for the spares.
Would not even entertain them now as the spares are way too high,I get the impression that their directors sit round a table and one by one they increase the price!October 16, 2010 at 9:12 pm #321466wsts
ParticipantOven and grill outer doors are around £250 mark trade price on some jobs I’ve priced up recently, absolutely nuts, when a customer throws away a couple of year old oven for ridiculously priced parts as such the manufacturer pretty much can guarantee never getting that customers trade again.

Customer wanted a quote for a programmer for a AWM 1403.Retail £186.49 plus Vat – ridiculous.I now actively discourage people from buying anything Whirlpool . I believe theyre stuggling a bit – they say that the market decides – serves the b*ggers right.Theyre just callout machines with the occasional blocked pump.
