Having read the forums and been one of many people who have experienced the same problem with the damper jamming open and the fridge freezing up I bought an extended warranty to ensure that I was convered and lo and behold at only 1 year and a few weeks my Admiral GC2224GEKB failed. This “faulty damper” is well documented in these forums.

Having had it replaced under warranty in August last year it has now failed again at 10 months and I am not happy. When the warranty expires and this continues to happen its going to cost pushing £200 a shot to have this replaired so any suggestions?

I want to approach Maytag, suggest the product is not fit for purpose or get a written guarantee that they will cover this beyond warranty as it is a known problem and they STILL have not recitifed it.

Does anyone know if a permanent fix has been found for this fault or are they still failing as what I am reading on the forums is suggesting that this is not the case.

Any help, recent experience or suggestions would be welcome

Re: Admiral/Whirlpool Fridge Freezer design fault ???

hello, it is very rare, almost unheard of, for this appliance to fault up again if it has been repaired properly to address the freezing in the fridge issue.
this repair would involve not just fitting a new damper, but also a low wattage heater to sit around the damper assembly.
    this will solve the problem.
by all means approach maytag and see what they suggest, but it always amuses me when a consumer starts quoting ‘not fit for purpose’.
far better, in my experience, to tell them your problem and just ask them what can be done. i’m sure they’ll help you.

    cheers.

Thanks for the response. Interestingly the engineer has been out and repaired it but during the process it has come to light that the heating element you talk about was not connected from new to a power supply and this has led to the problem. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as he showed me what was wrong and then connected it all up.

Should it happen again I will report back
