Participanthi, i have a smeg a2 oven. after a powercut yesterday the large oven and the digital display have stopped working. the smaller oven still works as normal. i have read a few bad reports on the quality and after sales service for this product. anybody recognise the problem ? i am looking for the best way to get the part required rather than a service centre number. thanks in advance…

KeymasterMore than likely the clock has failed by the sounds of that, which ain’t cheap I’m afraid. 🙁
Is that the part you’re after?
Smeg stuff is fine in general we have few problems with it at all and many of the issues with service, which were mostly spares supply related, are pretty much a thing of the past now. There are no repetitive failures other than clogging dishwasher side-chambers that I’m aware of and even that is pretty much okay and not a major issue at all.

would that stop the lh oven working ? it does nothing at all, no interior light or heat, but the fan has come on a couple of times whilst messing about with it. any idea on price or do you think the clock board is repairable at board level ?

KeymasterYes, it would do that but you’d probably get no fan other than the cooling fan maybe if you ran the small oven.
Clocks in the main you can kiss goodbye to about £80 excl VAT and upwards for, with most VFD electronic ones over £100 I’m afraid. I’ve only ever replaced two on Smeg appliances and both were over £100 if I recall correctly. Repairable at board level, maybe, but you’d be needing access to some custom components most likely and the manufacturers (all that I’ve encountered) do not do that for an oven timer.

KeymasterNo need, the part number for the clock is 816290347 and is listed at £113.61 excluding VAT.
Bear in mind though that it is a special order spare for almost any of us and as such is non-returnable. There are also several variants of the A42 cooker so it would be best to check the rating plate for the full model information to ensure you get the correct spare.
