    Hi

I have just acquired a less than 3 year old SGS46E02GB/75 on Ebay which had a reported failed drain pump for which I had a spare and duly replaced.

Whilst checking the machine I noticed that the main motor housing was furred up and showing evidence of leaking to the base on the RHS of the
machine. There was quite a lot of muck a debris in the base despite the matrix looking pretty much unused.

Running a rinse cycle showed a very tiny trickle followed by a much increased flow at the cycle end ie after draining. With the flow coming from
    under the main motor housing.

I am confident the leak is coming from the main circulation motor as there is no water build up in the base on the matrix side which is nice and
    clean showing little use?

I have attempted a few pics to liven this post up!

I would be very grateful if I could get some pointers towards a hopefully simple fix….do I need to purchase some seals etc and if so can the surgery be perfomed through the RHS of the machine(can the pump rear be twisted away? -looks like a bayonet.

Or do I have to completely dismantle and remove the base from the tub?

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

You need a seal kit (pt. no. 419027)…an email to Shop@ above should secure one, and yes you’ll need to separate the tub from the base i’m afraid

Re: Bosch Exxcel SGS46E02GB -main motor leaking-some help?

Thanks for the reply I have got a price for the seal set and will either order that or if I can lay my hands on a 2nd hand circulation motor replace the whole unit.

In general terms what is the best order to do things when removing the tub?

    1.Remove door-discconnect wiring harness etc
    2.Remove matrix
3.inner tub sump release and salt pot
    4.remove front chassis screws
5.remove rear chassis screws etc ??

I realise then that i will have to then remove the heater assembly and disconnect the motor assembly from the sump etc

Is the motor easy to get in to?-looks like a bayonet fit to the plastic front housing so does it twist apart?
Just looking for a few pointers to make sure I dont wreck anything on the way!

    Thanks

    Chris

No need to lift the tub completely. just take out the 4 screws that hold the tub to the base , release door spring clips on hinge hooks and then pop out springs from lower rear and lift tub up enough to lift RHS hinge bracket up to rest on base. This gives enough room to get motor out. Once the tub is raised , i would wedge something – i.e block of wood – between front of tub and base just in case tub drops .
There is a small ‘clip’ on the motor RHS that has to be depressed and the motor then twists clockwise to remove.

You might want to unhook the rubber bunjee’s on the motor before lifting tub.

Re: Bosch Exxcel SGS46E02GB -main motor leaking-some help?

Many thanks for the advice-will update re my progress when I fit the parts!
Will probably hunt down a motor as oem replacement cost about the same as the seal kit….

    slightly off topic but….

As a general observation this machine was manufactered in EU (no stainless
imprint) and had a sticker for the model code and FD number.

Is this a reflection on the quality of the manufacture? -surely for the main pump to have a problem and a failed drain pump with little sign of use(matrix) in less than 3 years would suggest this Bosch aint as good as it should be (or what I would expect from the brand)?

For me its an enjoyable challenge to sort out (fix) but it may suggest other sources of Bosch machines outside Germany may not be quite as good?

    Just a thought….

    Regards

    Chris

Re: Bosch Exxcel SGS46E02GB -main motor leaking-some help?

    Thanks Clive for the help….

Well managed to get the main motor out and the front away from the main
motor exposing the O ring which seems very oversized for the housing.

Can anyone tell me how I go about getting the rest of the front assembly away from the main pump/motor?

ie where the screwdriver is pointing in the pic?

I dont want to us the “big” hammer in case I wreck it……

There is corrision on the motor housing on lhs of the pic but I cant decide if the leak was due to in correctly fitted O ring in the first place or something that is hiding behind the still secured plastic front?

You need to stick a big flat bladed screw driver in the back of the motor to jam the fins then twist that centre impellor off….its seperate to the white housing . Behind here is where you’ll prob find the motor all corroded and leaking .

Is the impellor nut a left hand thread on these?

Thanks for the replies-I had tried an 8mm socket on the centre nut but it wouldnt budge….that is anticlockwise….
Will have another crack at it tomorrow with luck!

Having fully exposed the impellor you can unscrew it by hand using a cloth to hold it if necessary…the moulded nut in the centre is very weak and will probably get chewed up with a socket anyway.

The seal kit does include a new impellor and large ‘O’ ring as well as the impellor seals 😉

Re: Bosch Exxcel SGS46E02GB -main motor leaking-some help?

Just to update this thread as I have now managed to repair the machine.

I obtained a 2nd hand circulation pump and used the seal parts from the
front as replacement for the leaking housing.

Prior to installing in the machine I blocked the side port with cling film lay the
pump on its back and filled with water to check for leaks.

Took sometime to sort as it was hard to get the pump back into the machine
totally leak tight both to the sump and to the heating element housing.
I used cable ties initially but in the end had to use a jubilee clip to get a good seal to the element housing.

Anyway we got there in the end and many thanks for the advice and pointers given!
