ParticipantI really must start to listen to my gut feeling……….but I’m sorta committed now. 😥
Fisher & Paykel Smartdrive 051 top loader 1994. Customer brought it back from Oz and has used it here. The original fault was the machine was filling when off – no problem I thought, 2 X 90 degree valves, sorted!!
Fitted said valves and went to test it……dead. Then he tells me he had taken it to somewhere else and they couldn’t fix it. I now have 2 valves in the machine and basically no clue how I can proceed.
There is power to the PCB ‘mains in’ connection plug and the internal fuse is OK. Tried substituting the lid switch and the microswitch underneath the PCB (what does that do?) still dead.I suspect the PCB is goosed. If it is, how much for a new one and who supplies F & P spares in the UK?
Any help appreciated!!
Steve.

Try F&P in Milton Keynes, 08450 662200, I hope you didn’t put a 240V water valve in it as some of their appliances are low voltage, don’t know for sure on this one though but check out the Aussie forum on here 🙂

No, I noticed they were 12V; so I used a standard valve, removed the 240V solenoids and pushed the old 12V ones on the new valve bodies. The initial problem was the machine filling when off, not faulty solenoids. I checked they worked by connecting them to my cordless drill battery – they worked a treat. 😀 At this point I hadn’t even fitted them to the machine.
My happiness was short lived when I fitted them and the machine was dead. The power on / off switch didn’t even light up; it was as if the fuse in the plug was duff. There’s power to the board, the PCB fuse is OK, so I think it must be the PCB.
I have a bad feeling about the cost of this; but I can’t help wondering if the other company possibly did fit 240V valves and neglected to mention it…….. They had it for a couple of days and then said they couldn’t repair it. It’s a simple job if you take care…….hmmmmm…… 😕Steve.
