    Hi,

This Zanussi fridge freezer has served me really well for 9 years but now has stopped chilling properly. Fridge is cool inside but “too warm” is showing on cool check strip. Put a thermometer in the fridge in a glass of water and it is showing temperature as 11 degrees C.

Freezer appears to be working fine. Defrosted it to see if it improved the fridge situation but it didn’t. Compressor is running non-stop and is hot to touch.

Noticed a thin crack (about an inch long) in seal along bottom of fridge door. Also, back wall inside fridge has ice forming at the top but at the bottom it is only cool.

Would really appreciate some advice- is it worth spending time/money trying to get it working properly again or should I just be grateful for the 9 years I got out of it, bite the bullet and buy a new one.

    Thanks in advance,

    Pat

Sounds as if it needs regassed or compressor is failing.

Thanks for your help Seamy- so if it is potentially the compressor that needs replacing then i’d imagine the cost would not be worth it compared to buying a new fridge freezer? and regassing first would be a waste of money if problem is compressor.

erm, correct me if im wrong but does the machine have a defrost timer?

i think it does, and thats the usual culprit

the freezer working correctly would suggest over icing in the freezer, blocking the air vents

in the first instance, id defrost it for 48 hrs first (with doors open)

if it works ok when switched on, then itll be the timer stuck.. nice easy repair!

Thanks helo_75- AFAIK this model does not have a defrost timer- there is no mention of it in the instuction booklet- it is not a frost-free freezer BTW- is it possible, do you think, that the small crack in the seal is stopping the fridge from chilling down and causing the compressor to run non-stop?
