KeymasterHi everyone and thank you in advance for your help!
I’m moving house soon. Kitchen is very tired and we will be changing it but not for a couple of years or so. We are a family of 6 with lots of extended family and friends always around so we are pretty hard on kitchen appliances.1st problem – There is a gap for a 600 wide fridge (tall as you like) and I currently own an american side by side one (Samsung). I think I’ll have to buy a tall fridge to put in the gap, and park my Samsung in the utility room as a spare/overflow (not plumbed in though – and I’ll be sorry to lose the ice and water). The gap is on the same wall as a black aga – which made me think of getting a black fridge rather than a white or stainless one. I like the retro look of the Gorenje RF60309, but I’m worried by the info I’ve gleaned on this site that Gorenje make the Smeg Fab series – because I’d rather cut my arm off than buy a smeg, having seen the issues that friends have had with theirs. Alternatively I’m looking at the Bosch KGH36X51GB. I’ve never had a Bosch fridge. Which is the better option in your opinion? Or any alternative black ones you can suggest?
Second problem – There is another gap for a freestanding dishwasher – but when we change the kitchen we’ll have an integrated one. Can I buy an integrated one and a cheap door from b&q as a temporary measure, and then use it later integrated in the new kitchen, or is there more to it than that? Or if I have to go for freestanding I was again thinking of a black one which means limited choices. John lewis have the Exxcel SMS53E16GB but I’m more tempted by the Siemens SN26 M 690GB because I’m worried the Exxcel is a bit plasticy around the handle. Again, your views would be valued.
Finally I’m thinking of a Miele W5740 washing machine and T8722 tumble dryer. At almost £1700 for both I can’t believe I’m saying that, but I have 4 young kids, we use machines a LOT and I think any other brand might be a false economy. I think I’m happy with that decision <<>>
Many thanks if you’ve managed to read this far!

Hi Mel
I would rather compromise on the colour and go for what is arguably the best brand when it comes to build and reliability. Take a lok at the Liebherr range. German manufacturer who have been around for a long time producing refrigeration in the UK.
If black is a must then the Bosch would be a great choice. The Gorenje is limited by the amount of freezer space compared to the Bosch.
We have sold quite a few of the Retro machines over the last ten years with no trouble at all, spares if ever needed are readily available and at a reasonable cost.
Yes you can purchase an integrated dishwasher and a cheap B&Q door no problem there. Just be aware that there are two different sorts ie semi integrated where you see the control panel or fully integrated where the controls are along the top edge. Bosch and Siemens are part of the same group of companies Siemens are a higher spec and some will have a five year warranty.
The Miele applainces are without doubt very well designed eco friendly hard wearing appliances which come with the some of the best warranties around. The only thing for us independant dealers is the extremely high price of spares and the lack of tech info we can lay our hands on in order to offer a repair service, unless you are an authorised service agent.Bramptonmel wrote: We are a family of 6 with lots of extended family and friends always around so we are pretty hard on kitchen appliances.
There is another option you could consider which goes against the norm. ISE washing machines have been desingned by engineers on this site with the customer in mind ie low cost spares and local service not to mention the full ten year guarantees on the ISE10 washing machine and the matching ISE10condenser dryer.
They come in under your £1700 figure as well.
HTH 🙂Don
