ParticipantOk so I called out to a Bosch Exxcel washing machine, fault being no spin action, a little tap on the brushes and it fires into life.
I tell the customer that it requires new carbon brushes and the price for said job.
Recalling my experience with these particular models I decide to take the motor off strip it down and give it a good clean prior to fitting the new carbons.
When I refit the motor and test it on a spin, the drum twitches slightly and I get a noise from the motor as if it is jammed. I immediately switched the machine off as I don’t fancy having to replace the module.
So for a crate of virtual beer of your choice answers on a post card to erm here actually 😳
Cheers

field coils the wrong way around? or locating pins not siting into their sockets in the field coils?
next time, just blow down the holders, check for shorts, and fit the brushes!

Participantprobably find it needs a new motor, I find about 1 in 20 wont take a set of new brushes.

I thought you already had it sorted and were just running a competition. If it’s not sorted yet, you shouldn’t be handing out the prize till it is!
Don’t know how you managed to tap on the brushes while the motor was still on the machine and switched on. Sounds just a tiny bit risky if you’re lying under the machine with it switched on. 😕 But I suppose you know what you’re about.
Still, could be a wire not making good contact inside the motor plug, where the insulation displacement is. Or perhaps there’s an issue with the module.

Gosh.. why strip down a motor that is working… blow out the dust.. give the com a clean.. fit new brushes and you’ll be firing like a 46yr old acting like a 20yr old

As it has one of those horrible base plates, I had to take the front panel off. Also I tapped the brushes before selecting a spin. I am pretty sure that it was running ok before I removed the motor, the only thing I am not sure about is whether I put the field coil back on 180 degrees the wrong way.
I will return to the customer tomorrow and we shall see if I have to make good on my offer of virtual beer. 😉July 22, 2010 at 11:07 pm #326004nelson

I have found that every Bosch Exxcel I have had to change brushes on has needed the excess carbon cleaning away, or it has caused the spin to skip to end.
I don’t know why but I never have to do this on Bosch Classixx or the old Maxx machines 😕
I don”t normally have a problem with this job but I think today I was under pressure to be somewhere else at a given time and may have caused a lapse in concentration.
😳

Yes, sounds like there are some burnt out windings in the armature.
