If he did manage to climb in and pull the door shut did he also manage to turn the machine on? I suppose some machines if left with time on the timer will start as soon as you shut the door. Sounds to me like a brother / sister type prank that went badly wrong. If just trapped inside and not running I don’t think he would suffocate unless he was wedged so tightly that his chest could not expand.

Participanti dont see how he closed himself in to be honest, i mean with a body of his weight being spun in there, if the drum would spin at all, surely that door would have come open

child already hiding in drier, busy parent throws some stuff in, slams door switches on and rushes off……. just guessing really.
If anyone has ever needed to get an old Zanussi drier door open when the cable or button has broken will know it aint so easy. again just using imagination, dont know what the drier was in this instance.looking at the press however, I think we need to hold off any opinions on this until a cause of death is disclosed………

Poor, poor wee lad whatever happened. Not the first time this has occured either, not sure what the solution is beyond the legal requirement for a door switch.
A door obviously needs a certain resistance to opening or a load of wet washing would constantly be landing on the floor.Hard to believe an everyday object like a dryer could cause such horror.

if it was just a case of the boy climbing in and closing it behind himself then the new dryers with push to start are the way forward
if a sibling put him in there for a game and started it then there is no stopping that kind of thing, without putting a lock that requires an adult to open it even when the machine is not in use to begin to load
cant see that being wanted by the manufacturers or the puntersJuly 29, 2010 at 10:43 am #326266turbodry

Very sad … could be someone opened the door before cycle end, found the clothes were dry and just emptied it … ie. just shut the door and away it goes again (old types only)
We ALWAYS tell customers with older dryers to allow the cycle to finish before emptying it. -
