BlockedChange this game! Even if it means me sacrificing part or most of my Business!
Thinking selfishly for the short term… But I’m looking at the bigger picture. I’ll ALWAYS be able to pay for my home, car & food regardless what happens with me & Contract work, it doesn’t scare me anymore! But thinking longer term… This trade might just need a ‘Hitman’?! I think I fit that bill!
I have faith in the WTA & UKW as the future of our little corner of industry. The trade in general is just floating about the wayside, not noticed by anyone, and the suits know that, and are severely taking advantage! Well I’ve had enough to be honest! I’m 32, I do NOT want to spend the next 30yrs of my life moaning but doing. I’d rather butter bread for the next 30yrs, but with bread I sell at MY price!
I am NOT going to continue to repair appliances for £31. I know that money can be made by fiddling parts etc to compensate as lots of people do, but that aint me! And why should engineers have to fiddle to make a living from a skill that is worth much more than what we sell our asses for?
I want to do things that haven’t been done before! I want to go to CDSL, in person, demanding to see these suits that rape us on a daily basis! I want to ask them, things that no-one would dare say out loud in fear of losing work! And I want to PUBLICLY publish their replies. I want to basically stand up infront of everyone in this trade that wears a suit and say NO MORE! No more pants down! No more abuse… You want us… Fu**ing pay for us!
Basically, I want to volunteer to be a Hitman! So the question I need to ask is… Does the WTA want to stay ‘Quiet’, or does the WTA want to be seen to publicly be saying… NO MORE!…?

KeymasterRe: I want to…
Ade, now you are where I was when the whole NESN thing kicked off. The only difference is that I had years of experience myself by that point and a load of people with decades of experience to call on for advice, for free.
Many of these people, such as my old man, Ernie and a load of “old hands” told me that I was off my rocker when I said I wanted to change things. They may well have been quite correct.
On the other hand…
It did lead to the mailing list, UKW being here, ISE, the WTA and goodness knows what else in the future. So, maybe I am a lone nutter but at least I got up off my fat, lazy ass and tried to do something about it.
In all fairness and, as I have said elsewhere or, at least alluded to, this didn’t happen all by itself. I have had a lot of help along the way from the people that are involved directly and from the people that make up what UKW etc. is. It’s a team sport, not a one-man event.
I have a lot of people to be thankful for and I (in my mind) owe a lot of people in this trade, especially the repairers. I don’t forget it.
There are several people out there that are just as anxious as you to batter some suits around the head with a blunt instrument until it hurts, a lot. Then put the video on YouTube to serve as a warning to the other carrion. And, then go back and do it again just to make sure that the message was received and understood.
This is war basically. A war where you have to understand who the targets are, what the objectives are, where the places and points that will hurt are and how to reap the maximum damage.
But it’s like sticking your nose into a firefight at times, unarmed. You’ll get mowed down and probably not many, if any, will care.
So, if you accept that you can’t fight a superior force with a frontal attack, you go another route. My preferred option is guerilla warfare but the whole suicide bomber thing never really appealed to me. It’s just so cliched and I’d never have the heart to ask anyone to make a sacrifice of that magnitude for a cause, regardless of how just I thought it was.
Without going into huge detail on why that is can I just say that the WTA plays it’s role in making the repairers much, much stronger. A core element of that is the OFT approval and, no, this isn’t a bl00dy pitch, it’s the truth. The OFT thing gives legitimacy, credence and whatever other term or word you choose to use, to the WTA. It makes it credible basically and a force that has to be listened to as it’s given a big, big voice.
You guys run that, you’re responsible. I help, advise and all that cr4p but, it’s your graft. Not mine.
That goes much more so or you Ade on the OFT front.
Trust me, that will p1ss off a lot of people when we get it and, rightly so. It will also make them HAVE to look at the WTA in a whole different light.
But it’s like a roadside IED. They know it’s there, they just don’t know where or, if it’ll even go off… for now. But, if and when it does.., expect casualties.
It’s entirely your call on how you run your business and at what rate you accept for calls, I am in no position to even hint at what you should or should not accept and, I wouldn’t even presume to tell you. I will gladly offer council as you know, as much as I possibly can.
I do not however want to see someone as passionate and committed (perhaps you should be ;)) to this trade to leave it because of some jumped up monkey in a suit from Brum. Certainly not on a whim but, I know it isn’t a whim as you’ve been p1ssed since they came up with this.
Just don’t jeopardise all the other stuff you’ve built up over this, put yourself in harm’s way or leave the trade on the back of it. There’s brighter things on the horizon.

Ade, Ken is right dont be too hasty.
There is more than one way to skin a cat 😉I am very much on your side and Im sure the rest of the guys are as well.
You have put alot of time and energy in the legitamate route so dont ruin what you have done so far use and get the backing from the WTA.
We will win this fight, just bide your time 😆

Ade the best analogy I could come up with was if you shoot with a blunderbuss ,yes you cause damage but nothing significant .
Whereas if you wait and select your target and then when the prevailing conditions are correct you fire you have more chance of clean kill .
At the moment the prevailing conditions are not 100 {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} in the right place so there wont be a clean kill and there would be collateral damage which is not worth the sacrifice by those involved .
Wait a while and lets have a chat next week .July 29, 2010 at 9:59 pm #326415VillageIdiot2

I’d just love to be the one to cause the storm! I hear the above posts and respect them AND listen to you guys… But can I ask one thing?
When we HAVE the COP, can I please be the little irritating sh1t that gets into suits pants please? I’d have much love towards causing these people in ties problems, whether be small problems, or biggies!

There’s a queue. 😉
And, it isn’t a short one.
You need the club to beat with before you set off.

KeymasterThe gloves are off Steven. 😉
Let’s keep that way shall we?
WTA membership has swelled off the back of Amica and we’ve almost certainly got more members now that any other trade organisation.
First bit, big tick.
OFT Approved COP, second bit, we need to tick that.
Next, promote and market, establish brand and values. Coffers building to accomplish that, even if it is costing UKW & ISE to accomplish that, don’t care. This is a part of what we set out to do.
We don’t need massive public awareness, we need trade awareness first.
Efforts underpinned by the story, what we’ve done on ISE/UKW/Amica and a host of other fronts. Promote local service, better service, better value instead of rip-off insurance, rip-off fixed fees…
There is a strategy. 😉
