    HI there.

I have a Tricity Bendix SE454W electric cooker with fan oven.

The unit is around 5 years old. Around 18 months ago, there was no heat at all from the oven. I bought a new element, installed it, and everything was fine.

Starting around 6 months ago, I noticed that when I bake cakes (and other things that require specific cooking times) that they were undercooked. I bought an oven thermometer from a shop (a 10 quid jobby, so I know it wont be that accurate) and it seems that it wont heat beyond 190c when the dial is set to 240c. If I set the dial to 200c, it doesnt really go above 150c. The fan is turning, and the ‘heating’ light does come on and go off again, although when pre-heating it seems to go off way before its anywhere near the desired temperature.

Financially I cant afford a new cooker right now, so assuming that it is the thermostat that is causing the issue, I thought about replacing it myself. I found the part here: http://www.cooker-parts.co.uk/10228/inf … h=&sought= but before I spend £40 trying to fix something that (at a stretch) I could work around, I would like some confirmation that it is indeed the thermostat that is causing the issue, and is it something that is fairly easy to replace?

I actually dont mind paying someone to come and look at the oven and fix if possible, but with that scenario, I would like a rough cost of parts and labour. Obviously if it’s too much, I may as well wait until I have the cash for a new unit.

Thank you kindly for any help/advice you are able to offer.
