ParticipantHi guys, The subject machine has been finishing its cycle too early on several occasions. Last night it stopped and tripped the rcd, the rcd will not reset untill its unplugged. Once plugged in it trips straight away which tells me theres prob a dead short. Any info/ideas to solve this problem would be much appreciated. P.s i removed the supressor as this was showing continuity between L&N is this normal? Cheers ozz

Just read an older post on here about the dryer heater causing problems because of earth leakage. On inspection my machine does seem to have alot of limescale type stuff oozing out of the dryer duct in a few places. I dont use the dryer but would this cause a problem for washing programs and rcd tripping? If so is it possible to remove the plugs from the heater and carry on using just the washing programs? Also any ideas how to test the element? I have use of a megger in work. Thanx ozz

ozz, I suspect the reason nobody has responded to your posts this last few days is possibly due to fact it is likely you have little experience of electrical testing. Perhaps due to the fact that whilst you have access to a “megger in work” I’m not at all convinced you know how to use it? Don’t get me wrong, I’m no judge as to your abilities and if I’ve got you all wrong I will apologise right now OK?
Now, blowing the RCD means (as you have rightly concluded) that there is an electrical short or more likely an earth leak on some component within, spot on! In order to establish what exactly is causing the problem will involve some degree of electrical knowledge in order to test components, eliminate what’s working OK and what isn’t. Unfortunately a Zanussi washer/dryer isn’t the easiest beast to access these vital components and again prior knowledge of the product is vital for the greater part.
I would seriously suggest you go and check out the Repairs@ (just click on the blue type.) and see if there’s a company in your area that can help you on this. Just type in your postcode to find one. I’m sure they will sort it for you in no time at all AND for a reasonable price. All the best! 😀

Hi ozz. Just read the problem with your Machine.
Not being a Repair Engineer….. but having had the same problem recently with my machine (Washer / Dryer) it all boiled down to worn carbon brushes on the main Motor turning the drum. I am not sure how old / how often you use your machine but it could be worth having a quick look…. ❓
