    Hello everyone

My grandparents’ 9-year old Bosch washing machine is on its way out (noisy bearings I believe) and they don’t think it would be economical to repair and would like to buy a new machine.

They are looking at a maximum of £450 and like everyone here, they would like a quality machine that will last and have a decent guarantee.

They live in North Tyneside and there don’t seem to be many retailers to choose from, the usual big-box stores and Fenwick’s in Newcastle city centre. I live in Oxfordshire so I can only advise them over the phone for the time being.

They only use the machine a handful of times a week and probably only small loads each time, so they won’t need anything too complicated or flashy.

I’ve looked about a bit online and found a Siemens WM14E162GB for £380 from the Co-op website, plus £20 for connection and setting-up. It seems like a good deal but I think they would rather buy one from a shop.

Can anyone recommend a good machine in their price range and does anyone know any good domestic appliance shops int the North-Shields / Whitley Bay area?

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul.

For that money that offer on the Siemens is as good as it gets, go for it if you don’t get any offers or recommendations from local indies.

    Hi

Thanks for the reply, I would pick the Siemens but they seem reluctant about getting anything from an online supplier, it could be a lot of hassle if anything goes wrong.

Are Siemens branded washers the only good ones at this price range? Are there any other decent models at around £400 that may be available in major retailers?

In a word no, unless you stay within the same company which also includes Bosch and Neff.

It you buy any BSH ( Bosch, Neff, Seimens ) product you will still be covered by their full two year parts and labour warranty regardless of where it was purchased from. And lets face it, the Co-op is hardly an unknown, fly by night operator is it. 🙂

Our own ISE machines are also worth consideration.

    Hello

Just posting to give an update on the situation.

I’ve spoken to my grandparents today, they had decided to try getting the machine repaired. The repairers took it away and it seems they fitted new bearings but then discovered that the spider or spindle? has broken and that the machine couldn’t be economically repaired and it has been scrapped.

I’m quite at a loss that they couldn’t have established the machine had more serious damage before ordering and fitting parts to it. I have no idea how much this “service” has cost my grandparents and didn’t want to pry in case it upset them.

They have also told me that today they have ordered a Hotpoint from Currys :bang:

It’s all going to end in tears :sadder: :haier:
