ParticipantCan I install a built in Bosch double oven as a build under instead? I know there are dedicated build under ovens, but they have a smaller volume because of the wasted plinth space and I would like the larger oven. What vents would I need to ensure the oven functions without problems? There would be a wooden worksurface on top, with a top mounted ceramic hob (which I already own). Thanks

KeymasterNo, not without a special cabinet being built and the worktop raised well above the usual 850mm off the floor level.
A standard double oven is 900mm high. So, you’d have the plinth, 900mm then the worktop height.
Oh and that means all the rest of the floor units would have to be bespoke as well to match.
And, you’d need a big vent cut in the worktop at the back too.
At best, impractical but more likely not possible.
A better bet would be two single ovens side by side.

I guess I will go for the built in double oven in a proper cabinet as intended. Do the contents of surrounding units get hot? ie are the surrounding cupboards unsuitable for storing food?

With good units and proper ventilation as instructed, they should be but you will usually always get some bleeding of heat through but it shouldn’t be a big concern.
Just don’t put a fridge or freezer near the cooker… it’s not a good plan. 😉

I was wondering about exactly that layout. Do I have to have some plinth or could the oven go almost directly onto the (concrete) floor? I guess it can’t because of lack of ventilation, or the handle scraping the floor, but it would be the end of a run, so I could do side ventilation.

Hi
Oven doors shatter very easily , putting it so that the glass door is at ground level could be dangerous. The oven needs to be on a plinth, to keep it above toe level.

OK, so I need to put it on a plinth. Does that need a vent grille in it? Then I would like to put a wooden work surface directly on top of the oven, but will that restrict the airflow too much? Does that need a vent grille?
Having never used a built in oven I don’t know how much it heats the things immediately around it and how much airflow it needs.

id still go for 2x single ovens under copunter personally, the pic doesnt convey how the extra height of the oven compared to rest of the worktop significantly visually reduces the size of the kitchen!
hope this helps advise!
