ParticipantHi, I have bought a S/H Hotpoint WF740 washing machine, 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it does not finish the wash, the display says 1 minute remaining and it carries on spinning. It always drains fine, it should end but speeds up again, then runs slowly for a bit, then speeds up etc. Apparently these machines actively monitor the load while spinning so can take up to 15 mins longer to finish than the display indicates but it will carry on for ever if I don’t cancel the wash. It does not always do it and has not displayed an error code. Should I leave it running and see if it will finally give up and stop? I have left if well over half an hour before and it just continues the spin cycle. Any help greatly appreciated.
🙂

If you have the means to check the heating element for insulation leaks etc then do so after removing the mains plug of course.
If you do and the heater passes all electrical tests then try and get your money back. 😉

Thanks for the reply, why would the heating element effect it? not questioning the suggestion just interested to know what made you suggest it. How would I test it? If the heating element is fine then what do you think is the problem? I have seen other people have had this issue but not been able to find a solution or explination as to the cause. It wold help if I oculd speak to someone at Hotpoint but they are useless!

Just like the Indesit electronics in these machines.
If you have to ask how to test an electrical component for insulation, resistance or continuity then you really should not be poking around inside a washing machine or any other electrical appliance for that matter 😉
The electronics on most modern appliances can be thrown out of kilter by any faults on other components, the heater being down to earth is a common one.
TBH its likely to be the main PCB at fault, it is most of the time. :rolls:

I can test the element, I just wondered if there was a known issue relating to the element and the machine running fine until the end of the spin or if ‘test the element’ is just a standard response.

if the element is knackered the mahine is still waiting to heat up even 6 weeks later
if it is intermittent then are you sure the load is even as an uneven load will cause alll sorts of spin problems

Thats if the element is O/C, if it has an insulation fault it can cause the PCB to throw a wobbly. 😉
BTW norkle, I don’t do ‘standard responses’ 😉 8)
There are umpteen known issues with these machines due to the sub standard electronics the Indesit Company have used in them. Sticking with one minute in display is one of many. 😥

ParticipantTurns out that 2 wires on the wiring look were loose, 1 was completely off, the other intermittant. Works like a dream now!
