My Indesit IDF125 dishwasher is not washing properly and not fully dissolving the tablet. The filter is clean, the spray arms are clear, the water inlet filter is clear and the rinse aid and salt levels are OK. It also seems to be getting the water hot. I’ve also been careful to load it properly.

Having eliminated (I think) all that lot, I’ve run out of bright ideas. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Logic would dictate that the problem is caused by one of two things :-

Either the water level is too low (insufficient water to spray around) or there is insufficient pressure from the wash pump (the pump is faulty/blocked or the pressure is not directed correctly to the spray arms).

Not sure about your model but some of these have a diverter valve to direct the water to each spray arm in turn, they have been known to fail….

There have been several reports of circualtion pump failures on these machines, not seen one myself…..yet. 😥

    Thank you Clive and iadom.

I’m now 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure that the spray arms are not rotating, which suggests they are not getting any water. Time to look at that circulation pump I think.

Mystery solved. The pump impeller had come loose from the motor spindle.

I took the pump out and checked it for blockages and performed an electrical continuity test on the coil windings and the heater circuit, which of course checked out OK. I didn’t check the capacitor because I would have had to break and remake the solder connections. I even turned the impeller by hand and found that it turned freely.

By this point I had run out of ideas (apart from the capacitor that I couldn’t test) and called in an engineer who eventually determined that the impeller was no longer attached to the motor spindle. The clue was that it spun freely without being flicked on my the magnetic field — it moved too smoothly!

This is a sneaky mechanical fault that DIYers like me might not spot.
