ParticipantHi all
Went to a hotpoint d/w no fill
I hate these you get a leak and however long you watch them you cant find it.
today a break through.
Same place as a recent one i nearly solved ( by salt filler cap ) was a tiny pin hole in the base. Last time I thought it was the sump seal, but still leaked.
Only found it when I switched the d/w of while it was full of water, there was water seeping round the sump seal.
But this was dripping down from this pin hole,
Any way strayed a bit there.
The problem is what is the best way to seal a pin hole leak in the base of a dishwasher.
Would use chemical metal (great stuff) but is this ok to use on a dishwasher ❓
Is this a common fault ❓ . You could just see the pin hole from inside the d/w when you new where to look.
I will be looking more carefully now before I strip out these again.paul

ParticipantI sorted a similar problem a while back by opening out the hole and using a nut, bolt (stainless of course) and small rubber washer.
Worked a treat.

Or of course you could just use a stainless steel self tapper with a rubber washer on its own with a drop of good quality thread lock and its then accessible just from inide the appliance.

KeymasterThis thread reminds me of an old Candy call, they expected us to change a dishwasher tank for £20 odds, yeah right.
But I’d go with Penguin’s suggestion as it seems a more secure solution, that said, I’d probably do what Bryan suggested on the spot just to complete the call. 😉

BSH Appliance Care do a low temperature for this repair, involves no stripping out solder from inside tank. No part number available for this item, talk to their tech. department.

I remember many months back someone (probably it was you Sparkey?) touched on this subject before mentioning BSH Appliance Care’s Solder ❓ I could’nt extract any info from them directly at the time so any further on this would be appreciated.
Silver Solder will do the trick I believe, but you need a high wattage soldering iron for that! With larger holes an ideal ‘trick’ is to enlarge the hole with a 6mm drill and use the old Hoover white rubber ‘Tub Bung’ Part No 09010828 (Obsolete now which doesn’t help much 😉 ) though I still have a good van stock of them.
Epoxy Resin glue doesn’t work for long ‘cos the detergent eats it up eventually!

it’s back to keeping the hole as small as possible for as long as possible, personally if it starts to leak again in a few years then yep enlarge the hole and nut and bolt it.theres not many of us who keep different size s/s nuts and bolts but im sure you would find a s/s screw spare on the dishwasher to half inch. 🙄
