My Dishwasher came up with error E3. I got a new Element fitted as advised by MFI aftersales service. I still get error E3 and no heat from the new element. Any ideas on what else it may be?

    Hi Jan,

E3 is a “no heat” error which can be caused by no less than seven different failures that are listed, many of which you may well not even think to look for, like the spray arms blocked. MFI Extracare, without looking at the appliance, can only do what we’d do and guess at the fault. In effect all that “E3” is telling you is that the machine is not reaching temperature, not why it’s not reaching temperature.

Due to legislation I can’t be to precise here, but the most likely cause is that the resettable thermostat has tripped (usually a bit of cutlery across the heater and stat will do that ;)) and if you access the thermostat and press the little red button in the centre it may cure the fault.

If that doesn’t clear it my advice is to get in an engineer in all honesty and there’s a lot of the guys on here are specialist repairers for MFI/Hygena/Diplomat appliances if that helps any.

I have the same problem. I have located the thermostat but cannot find any reset switch on or around it. Any more suggestions? I have checked the element and thats fine and traced all wires through door for any breaks.

    No heat?

the obvious is the element, are you able to measure its resistance and insulation values?

Wired the element direct to the mains and it works fine. Resistance showed 25ohms which I guess is about right. No shorts showing.

Owner said she saw element glowing red hot shortly before it went wrong. The thermostat is an automatic reset type. Thermostat operates in hot water and appears to switch across although without a wiring diagram I am unsure if it is switching correctly. When cold two terminals on one side are connected, when hot the opposite terminals are then connected and the original two break contact. Does anyone know if this is operating correctly?

Yep, that’s sounds correct, one side is the temperature control the other an overheat protection.

You’d have to have the water pretty hot though to break the overheat contactss I believe it’s set at around 80C.

There is another thermostat/thermistor inside the door as well.

The thermostat/thermistor in the door doesn’t appear to change state when put in hot water. It is constantly open. Tried to bypass it by linking two wires and running quick program but still got an error code.

you say the owner saw the element glowing red hot before it went wrong?…the element should never glow at any time…sounds like a water control problem, or a wash pump problem. Either of these would cause overheating of the element which in turn would trip the o/heat cut/out and stop the machine heating, thus giving an E3 code.
Sounds very much like you need an engineer to investigate this for you.

Have flipped door switch and run a cycle with the door partiallty open and there is plenty of water and pump power.

Can anyone tell me how to test the thermostat/thermistor in the door?

Re: Diplomat ADP 8224 Dishwasher E3 error

If it’s a thermistor then you need to be able to measure it’s electrical resistance with a meter, and observe that value changing when warming or cooling it (you could be looking at values of something like 20-40k ohms at room temperature), if it’s a stat then it will have contacts that open or close at a set temperature (often about 65 degrees for a dishwasher which is actually very hot!)
Still puzzled why the element was observed red hot though…you say you tested it by running with the door open, the wash pump takes several seconds to reach full pressure by which time with the door even slightly ajar most of the water would no longer be in the machine 😉
The acid test of water level is listening to the wash pump during operation, and listening for the swishing of both arms rotating under pressureconstantly.
Even if this happens, you may have an intermittant fault with the wash pump or water level control…either way it may not be what you want to hear but an engineer visit might be the best bet IMO
