The red warning light has been coming on and off just recently. We’ve not put a lot of new stuff in so that’s not the cause.

Thermometer shows it around -25. There was a bit of frost build-up inside but (a) not over the entire inside of the cabinet or (b) especially thick but have cleaned it out.

Currently frozen food is back in and freezer turned back on…waiting to see what happens.

The compressor is working (ie making a normal running noise and gets warm to the touch). Is there anything else I can check?

Last question..is there a limit as to how much food can be stored in a chest freezer? Layout recommendations?

The freezer seemed to work OK in that the red warning light went out but I’ve noticed that the compressor seems to be running all the time and not getting the temperature down to the thermostat setting. If I turn down the thermostat – towards OFF – then there comes a point where the compressor does switch off. However, if I then return the thermostat to its’ usual position, then (after a short while) the compressor starts again and stays running.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Firstly the temperature you should be running the freezer at is at about -18C not -25 all you are doing is wasting electric. The thermostat is designed to run with a 4 degree spread ie if set at -18C it will fluctuate between -16C and -20C outside of this the red light will come on. If you set the temperature too low the appliance will cycle on its compressor safety cut out rather than the thermostat.

Thanks for that. Reset the thermostat to a more sensible setting and all seems well.
