Does the drum revolve if you set it to a spin cycle?

If not then it is time to check the motor brushes, with the mains plug removed of course. 😉

put new bushes still no good, but did notice where the cold water comes in at the back smoke /steam was coming from where the wires that went into the valve, turned off straight away looking at it from the front it is the right hand side cold water valve. Could this be why it wont turn the drum. The valve is leaking slightly and is going on to the wires. the wire terminals are corroded slightly also.

What can happen is the washer fills on one valve for a small amount of time then switches to a different valve and it sounds like this second valve is jammed/faulty.

I would check the operation of all the valves and the continuity across the terminals of each valve, should be around 70 K ohms.
