Abit of advice would be really appreciated

We have a Bosch WVT 1260 GB washer dryer and the programmes are working however the wash element of the cycle as opposed to say lasting 40minutes last 2 hours and then it kicks into rinse and spin.

An Engineer came out to it – said it needed a new control module – I ordered one and fitted it myself which was simple. Its still doing the same only now has additional functionality such as load size and beeping at the start and end of cycles.

I know the washer dryer has auto adjusting of programme length dependant upon wash load weight – could there be something wrong with that part or alternatively as we live in a hard water area could sensors just be gunked up?

Any advice would be appreciated as its such a shame to chuck it out – especially when Ive spent £200 on an Engineers visit and a control board.

    Thanks in Anticipation

PS Anybody want to buy a control module for said machine in working order??

Without being cynical, some engineers use the “control board” as a sort of fallback item to blame. What else did they test before they diagnosed the board? Was there any visible damage to the old PCB?

It appears either he wasn’t confident enough to put his own money behind his diagnosis, or you decided to take the chance on relying on someone else’s diagnosis yourself.

Either way, it’s best to start at the beginning. First point of call, with power off, is to check the heater with a megger (or multimeter to start if you don’t have a megger), check the thermostat with a multimeter, and check the continuity of wiring from the heater and the thermostat to the PCB. Let us know how you get on and we can advise from there.

    Thanks for your swift reply.

Unfortunately he saw my wife and only tested a cup of tea before diagnosing the board!

He didnt take the board out and examine it but when I did to change it one of the circuits is very carbonned up – but I couldnt tell you which one – I still have the board

I’ll do as you suggest and come back to you

    Thanks again

Okay. If you trace the wiring back from the burnt circuit to the connected component that will give you a good clue as well. Of course, by fitting a new board before checking this there’s a possibility that the new board will now be damaged as well, but at least with Bosch electronics you have a chance of salvaging it :).

Do you mind if I ask what engineer you used, e.g. was it Serviceforce/Repaircare/Premier Electrics or an independent? Always worth knowing where these engineers that can diagnose a fault without actually checking the machine work at 😉

TBH , it sounds more like an open circuit heater element. If the water doesn’t heat , the machine won’t advance until approx 105 minutes into the cycle …..which would be close to the 2 hrs you stated.

Did he test the heater element ?

    Paul,

OP already said engineer didn’t check machine at all – hence asking him to check element 8)
