I went to this WF340 10 days ago – original fault was it didn’t turn on, yet all the lights flashed.

I cleaned up the carbon deposits from around the motor brushes and got the insulation back up from less than 4 MegOhms to over 1000 MegOhms.
Insulation was otherwise OK on all components.
Checked out the module at the same time – it had evidence of overheating (soot, in other words), but not in the areas highlighted by EMW’s help sheet, so I thought I’d run it to see if we’d got away with it.

It worked OK and then continued to do so for another 3 or 4 days, then stopped again.

Ordered a replacement module from EMW, which I fitted this morning, and on functioning it, although it seems to fill ok, agitate ok, drain ok and spin ok, I get occasional flashing of the 3rd or 4th , or sometimes both, lights, yet the on/off light is not flashing, so I believe it’s not an error code.
She then tells me it was also doing that for a few weeks before she called me out.

It also seems to choose when to let the machine’s on/off button work, either to switch it off, or to switch it back on if you’re lucky enough to have switched it off.

I’ve checked the input board for signs of damage – none.
I’ve checked and tightened both end connectors joining the input board to the module.

Then I noticed that the 3rd light (Rinse Hold), or sometimes the 4th light (Mini Load), flashed for around 10 seconds whilst the machine was switched on, but the door was still open, not having selected any program at all.

I took the replacement module off and brought them both home, for further investigation and to prevent her from knackering a replacement module unnecessarily.

    Any suggestions, please?
    Thanks,
    Pigpen.

ask emw if they get problems with top module and get them to test as a pair

had a few machines where top panel was the fault

    Thanks, Dave.
Were there any obvious signs of damage on the top panels that you replaced, or were the faults hidden inside the components, undetectable to the human eye?
    Cheers,
    Pigpen.

They’ve gone off as a pair to EMW, along with the old module.
I’ll let you know what the outcome is.
    Cheers,

    Re: Hotpoint WF340PB lights flashing

The pair came back from EMW with no faults apparent.

The original board had signs of overheating in the heater circuit, although the heating element checks out fine, both resistance-wise and insulation-wise.

I replaced the heating element anyway, but could see no signs of any fault on the old element after I had removed it.

Put both boards back in and ….

    …. fault still apparent! :bang:

She’s getting a new machine now, so I’ll be carting this one off to my back yard for further investigation when I get time.

Check for consistent operation of tactile switch(es) by connecting a battery test lamp (meter’s too slow to react) across them in circuit. You’ll probably find the on/off and maybe others too are dodgy.
You can get spares from any electronics supplier or e-bay.

Pigpen, I’ve got a board pair for WF340 (don’t know what suffix, if any). Came from a machine which was written off for drum failure. I’m 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure they’re good. E-mail for fair price if interested.

    Re: Hotpoint WF340PB lights flashing

    Thanks, Mike.

Replacing the top board alone cured the fault (you were right, Dave, although it tested fine at EMW).

So I swapped the bottom board over, too, to see if the bottom one you sent was OK. It was. 🙂

I then had a spare WF340 board, which I’ve gone and fitted to another machine this morning, as luck would have it, which had a heater relay problem.

    Job done! 😀

I’ll get round to checking the tactile switches on the other top board one day!!

Great! Win win all round. I’ll get on and give that e-bay seller I bought them boards off some extra positive feedback now!
