ParticipantHello there,
Thank you all so far for the advice about changing the capacitors (clicking stopped), I changed all nine.
However, now it wont cool down at all. Could this be something I’ve done, dry solder perhaps, or is there something else that needs changing/repairing?
Cheers guys, any help is much appreciated.
Tony.

OK I just took the board out again, some of my soldering didn’t look too clever so I redid them, still didn’t work. It’s possible I put the small round capacitor, that has a polarity in the wrong way round. I put it the other way, it started working! for about an hour, then the alarm started again.
After some turning off and on again, it started again. I’ve put a temp probe in so I don’t have to open the door to check it. It’s running again, not sure if it’ll stay running but at least the compressor comes on now.
Does anyone know which way round the small capacitor is supposed to go? I forgot after I took the old one off!
Cheers.
edit: I forgot to add It’s model number is FRWW2VAF20/0
there were two other numbers below that 8586 400 15001 and 11 0705 019712 and it’s three years old.September 28, 2010 at 1:27 pm #331413Graphite

Hi – there should be markings on the board and on the capacitor!
Brodders does the kits still on ebay – there are some pictures of the boards on his listing which may help…
Currently… http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Whirlpool-Fridge- … 4cf1c5870d
Or if listing finished search for… Whirlpool Fridge Freezer Repair kit (side by side) or seller broddersbaldrick

I had put it the wrong way first time, it’s the right way now, I saw the markings, I should have paid attention the first time ay?
Well, it ran for about another hour or so, then off again. Now it flashes up CF which I think is communication failure.
Would it be easier to just get a new board? or would a replacement board have the cheap capacitors on it?
Or is there something else that could be causing the problem?
Cheers,

New board… Easy! – without a doubt – but £170 😯
You may have fried the polarity sensitive capacitor – maybe a new one of those might do the trick. I’m not an expert with these – just a mechanical engineer who doesn’t like having to buy an overpriced circuit board when a few pence worth of capacitors are the culprit! 😆
If you follow the ebay link and find brodders for sale stuff – you can contact him via the ebay messaging system (if you didn’t get your kit from him in the first place 😉 ) I’m sure he will be more than happy to advise you.
I just got a front board only kit from him – I am very impressed – everything you need and excellent instructions…
All the best
