Hi, I hope you can help.
Bosch SGS 5342GB/17 FD8105.
Problems experienced with random cycle times, no heating and endless run-on at 1min.
Generally similar to previous thread “Bosch SGS5342GB/17 FD8105 excessive cycle time not draining” originally posted April 2008. (except draining was not an issue with mine)
I have followed advice for the above thread with no resolution so far. Current status is:-
Matrix crud found and cleaned; drain cleaner worked with matrix removed.
Pressure chamber fully functional and water level seems ok
Pump impeller clear and pumping
Heater element resistance 22 Ohms; should be ok
I think I have covered all the stuff mentioned in the old thread, so any new ideas would be very welcome. I am a retired engineer, so concepts of testing and analysis are not an issue, but lack familiarity with this product.
Many thanks in anticipation, Chris.If water levels ok and heater has continuity then i’d be looking for a dry joint on the control board….quite common . remove the control pcb from the door and you’ll prob find the offending relay when you open the casing.

Many thanks for your response and spot on prediction.The only problem is that the pin on the relay is so eroded/short that it is well down near to the relay face of the PCB, so access for cleaning and soldering is going to be near impossible. Looks like the pin suffered a melt down! It also looks as if this pin is intended to connect to either the top side of the PCB or to an intermediate layer …is that the case?
Question now is; are new relays available? and if so are they a practical proposition to replace? I have sufficient skill (I hope!). Do you know where to get one from? and any idea how much? I guess anything is better than £130 for a new module! I could try to re-tin the pin and flood the hole with solder …is that normal for these PCB’s?

Hi again,
Just an update!
Using a 5mm drill by hand, I have been able to “countersink” the back of the PCB to improve access and using a 3mm drill by hand have been able cut back around the pin to expose the back face of the PCB track. All this drill work has also cut back the relay pin to something more substantial than the eroded needlepoint. I now feel that a decent connection can be made and potentially superior to the original too. Does all this sound like being within normal requirements?
Looks to me as if this is a convenient weak-point that could easily be designed out, but keeps people buying control modules at a high price!
I will let you know if it works. Just need to find my soldering iron……

Hi, Another update!,
Partial success; had to link the relay pin via wire to the track on the front side of the board. The heater now works as it should, but the programme times are still wrong; 2H for the intensive 70deg, 6 min for the 65deg, 2H for the 50deg eco, 33min for the quick35deg and 13min for the pre-rinse … I think the latter two are correct from memory.
Any further idea’s to fix the timer?

Yes ….let it run through a couple of the higher programmes completely . It may be that the model uses the length of its last full cycle as the starting point. Put it on a full cycle and the times may suddenly jump down and correct itself .

Great, Thanks, its running now. Interestingly, the times have changed to 2H for all three hotter programs, so something changed just from the last power down. I’ll stick out the full 2 hours this time and see what happens.

Once again your diagnosis was 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} accurate. Every thing now working properly and programme times back to normal. I’m very grateful as the whole repair has cost absolutely nothing except time and effort and a replacement machine would have cost around £400 and at the minimum a new matrix and controller was about £180. Job done! 😀
