PO is only meant to display during a test sequence, its supposed to indicate the pressure switch has been reset.
To cancel the test programme proceed as follows:
– switch the appliance off
Repeat the procedure to set the test programme (With the door-opened switch on the appliance and
within 2 secondβs press the programme selection button rapidly 4 times).
– switch the appliance off
The test program has now been cancelled.September 28, 2010 at 6:49 pm #331578hardyb

π Thanks for the effort, but pass the hammer! I tried as instructed – I trained as an aircraft eng 40+ years ago, so I still follow the book – but all to no avail – any other ideas please?September 28, 2010 at 9:51 pm #331579iadom

Its possible that there is a fault on the pressure switch or there may be water in the base. However a flooded base should give error code E1.
Pure guesswork from here on in, you could try leaving it unplugged for a while but it is supposed to retain the last position in memory and carry on from there.
I’m not sure who actually made this machine, made from 2002 which is after the Indesit take over of Hotpoint but the parts diagrams don’t look like the bog standard Indesit machines. In fact it looks a bit Smeggy. :con:
I will investigate further. π

Thanks for all the effort – I tried leaving it closed up overnight to see if the timer counted down – π it went UP to 22!!!!
π‘ Great minds etc – I opened it up first thing this AM, saw the results of the overnight and then pulled the plug!
This is definitely outside the comfort range of my hammer.

Tis a Smeg, not bad machines but can suffer from expensive or hard to pin down faults.
If the door latch mechanism seems to be operating correctly then you may have an earth fault somewhere or even a main PCB fault.
A more complex machine than the usual Indesit stuff badged as Hotpoint, with parts prices to match.

β Victor Meldrew lives – after leaving machine without power until midday yesterday, I tried again to no avail – contacted Nick, a local repair man who had another contact who deals with e-failures – Nick texted the contact number yesterday evening and I was about to call when I decided just to try the buttons one more time – pressed P and from P0 it moved to P4 :rolls: – I shut the door and ran the full cycle – of course, this was after I had emptied the machine on Wednesday evening and hand-washed a full load of dishes π‘
How long the recovery will last remains to be seen, but many thanks for the assist regardless.
