ParticipantHello folks,
I’ve an Ariston 1636 that is about 1 month short of 5 years old, and when I found the instruction manual, the bit of card you’re supposed to send off for the 5 year warranty fell out. Bugger 😆
Anyhoo, the purpose of this post is that is has developed a fault: When you start a cycle, it will fill, sit there for a few seconds, a faint click/pop can be heard and it starts draining.
At this point the door lock LED flashes very rapidly, and the quick wash button lights up (4th and bottom one)
I did a bit of research before deciding to bug you guys, which lead me to believe that a new (well, recon) PCB would be required. That arrived today and was swiftly fitted, only to make no difference what-so-ever. Which was annoying.
Anyone have any idea’s as to what my next step should be (aside from returning the PCB)?

That does not compute. 😉
4th and bottom one. ❓
Errors are flagged up by flashing the mains/doorlock light rapidly and slowly flashing a combination of the four vertical lights. As there are only four lights 4th and bottom one doesn’t make sense. 😕
If it is the 4th light flashing then that does suggest a motor triac fault on the PCB, however the original board may have been damaged by a fault on the motor, hence the popping noise, if so then the replacement will also have suffered the same damage.

ParticipantWhat I mean is it’s the 4th light which is also the bottom one 😆
Don’t suppose there is any way to test the motor?

Multimeter, meggar, visual examination……

Didn’t notice anything obviously visually wrong when I was getting the control board out, but didn’t really stare too much.
Multimeter time it is then 8)

You need to be looking for badly worn motor brushes and checking for poor insulation with meter.

ParticipantI was under the impression that being a 3 phase motor, it didn’t have any brushes?
Might have got the wrong end of the stick somewhere though.

DOH, its late and I am tired, first week back after two weeks holiday. 😳
You are correct, not brushes.
Motor is still a strong candidate though. 😉
Check all of the wiring harness connections close to the motor plug, give them a gentle tug.

I have discovered a broken wire on the plug that connects to the motors loom, I feel this is a strong candidate for causing my problem!
Annoyingly it’s broken flush with the plug, so I’m going to have to split it, I think.

OK, fixed the wire, and have a new error. I now have the 3rd button lighting along with the lock LED.
Now the motor does move the drum when you start a cycle, but only about 1/4 of a turn in each direction?

3rd light flashing is supposed to indicate motor jammed or tacho fault.
You need to give every single wire in the plug a tug to see if there are any more broken, sometimes the insulation will be intact but the copper wire inside may have broken.

Forgot to update this, was indeed all down to wiring thankfully.
I notice there is a replacement harness available, so can’t be too uncommon. Will be treating it to a new door seal now, as the original one is a bit rank 😆
