ParticipantMy Bosch tumble dryer has started to beep the condensation alarm almost as soon as I start it up, even when there is no water in the water tank.
For a while now it has been beeping when the water tank was nowhere near full, but it now beeps immediately.
I don’t know how it senses the tank level, but it feels as though perhaps the sensor is dirty. However, the machine is clean, and I’m a bit mystified.
I do vaguely recall being told or reading about an additional sensor in the air path that sometimes got dirty, but I can’t recall the details.
The model is the WTL55 (aka WTL5500, aka FD 8005 00175), and I’m more than capable of pulling the thing apart if it needs doing.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

ParticipantThe machine uses the water level in the pump sump to determine whether the tanks full. The water from a drying cycle will slowly accumulate in the drain pump sump and lift a float. If , after a period of pumping , the water level in the pump area doesn’t drop , then it presumes the water container is full and hence you get the ’empty container’ LED lit.
HOWEVER , there are a couple of scenarios which will give false indications . I’ll list them in order of ease an probability.1: The nozzle to the water container is blocked . You will need to take the lid off and check the nozzle that connects the drain hose to the rear of the water container.
2: The filter on the rear of the water container is blocked and not allowing water into it. If you depress the little button on the filter , it should allow water to flow through it into the container. If its blocked , water will just flow back down the overflow hose and return to the sump/pump area
3: The drain pump sump area is bunged up with
fluff and crap. Due to forum rules , we can’t give a nuts and bolts description of how to strip the machine but it is situated on the RHS as you look at the machine and will require the RHS panel being removed to access it.Hope this helps and please remember – POWER OFF IF INVESTIGATING

Many thanks for those suggestions, and the explanation of the process will be a great help.
I’ll take a look later today.
I did notice when I turned it on this morning that the water pump ran for a while and almost filled the water tank within a couple of minutes. After that it went ahead and dried with no problems or alarms.

Thanks again for your help

Well, I knew it was too good to be true. Three days later, the condensation alarm is going again – the impeller is clear and the tube is clear, and the float seems to be operating correctly, so I’m mystified.

Belay that last message. It looks as though I’d not properly positioned the sump pump, and it wasn’t working properly. Ho Hum.
Seems okay now (although I’ve just about destroyed the plastic clamp that holds it in place)
