ParticipantHOW COME ALL THE CRAP JOBS COME AT ONCE?
GOT A PROBLEM WITH A DEDIETRICH FX4448E12 SELF CLEAN OVEN.WHEN THE CUSTOMER USES THE SELF CLEAN THE APPLIANCE DIES AFTER ABOUT HALF AN HOUR.NO DISPLAY ECT.IT COMES BACK INTO LIFE ONCE ITS COOLED DOWN.SHE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM LAST YEAR ,THE PCB WAS REPLACED WHICH CURED THE FAULT FOR APPROX 5USES.WE HAVE CHANGED THE PCB BUT STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM.EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING OKAY.COOLING FAN RUNS AND STEPS UP TO SECOND SPEED.INSTALLATION OKAY.CAN ONLY THINK THE FAN IS FAILING AFTER BEING ON FOR SOME TIME.AS FAR AS I CAN TELL THERES B#GGER ALL IN THE THING!
ANY IDEAS APART FROM MR MUSCLE AND RUBBER GLOVES?THANKS PINKY

KeymasterCut out thermostat failing? Stat not kicking in on pyro?
I had one of these do this and it was a pig!
Eventually after replacing the PCB & display as there was an obvious fault there, we were advised to replace both resistors and the main temp probe by Brandt. Dunno why the resistors were replaced though, probably a “belt & braces” job, but those timers, well… they’re ‘orrible! 😉

THANKS FOR THE REPLY K. I DID CHANGE THE RESISTORS WHEN CHANING THE PCB.IT LOOKED TO ME AS IF THEY WERE TO DO WITH THE COOLING FAN SYSTEM?AS TO THE CUT OUT STAT I’M BLOWED IF I COULD FIND ANYTHING THAT RESEMBLED ONE.I ALSO THOUGHT SENSOR FAULT BUT IT LOOKED AS THE ONE SENSOR COVERED ALL AND THE PUNTER SAYS ITS COOKING OKAY?
ANY OTHER IDEASPINKY

I’ve checked the technical info for this model, there is no seperate toc shown anywhere. It looks as though there is something though looking at the wiring diagram, so it’s either an integral part of the pcb unit or maybe it’s somewhere within the door locking unit?
We have also got one of these on the go at the moment, the fan element blew and appears to have damaged the pcb as the door now locks on all functions and no power to the fan element, customer hanging due to the cost of it all.

KeymasterAh, but does the big temperature probe thing not do more than that? I’m sure I remember a conversation with Ross (ex-area manager) about the same or a similar issue on one of these machines.
The thing is pretty simple really, probe sends current temp (but I’m sure the bugger acts as an overheat device too), then the board gets that info and translates whether or not to lock the door or not dependent on the cycle or function chosen. I have seen the door lock failing before though in the closed position as I *think* it’s a “fail-safe” and should therefore fail an closed position so the customer doesn’t get an accidental sun tan. 😉

Easy way to tell, how many leads does it have ?
If it only has two it will be just an NTC or PTC type thermistor, anymore than that it may well have some form of failsafe built in to it or may even be two thermistors in the same probe.

KeymasterCan’t remember but it could be a digital probe, in which case the feedback to the module would be from one or two wires. If it’s connected directly to the board then that’s a possibility and very probably a lower cost option than using seperate stats.
The wiring diagram (a term I use in the loosest possible terms here) is not very clear in the least as to letting you know what’s actually going on. 😕
