ParticipantWe have a WVT1260 washer dryer – has very noisy spin – especially at high speed. Sounds like metal against metal continuous grinding noise. Thought it could be bearings but there is only a very slight movement in the drum. No sign of anything stuck between drum and tub. Drum turns smoothly.
What else should I check?
Many thanks…October 18, 2010 at 7:07 am #333253Martin

Thanks Martin – I guess I have to fully remove the whole drum to get at these… Can the bearings be extracted from the cross-shaped carrier and replaced? Do I need a special tool to get them out? Will I need to replace the drum shaft?
Can anyone help with the right part numbers?
Many thanks..

It might just be something like a bra-wire caught behind the drum…bearing failure doesn’t sound like a ‘scraping’ noise althougth noises are very subjective of course.
Pop the wash heater out and have a good look with a torch in there, you can also disconnect the main sump hose too…if bearings need replacing these will have to be disconnected anyway.
Have a look HERE to identify your model and the parts concerned. The bearings could be sourced separately using the numbers on the bearings themselves but the seal need s to be replaced at the same time (if they have failed then the seal will be the cause). The condition of the drum shaft is also important as that forms part of the seal but if you can get the bearings and seal cheaply then it’s worth just cleaning up the drum shaft and giving it a go.
Let us know how you get on?

Check the mounting brackets on the drier unit. They can shear off and make a terrible noise.

Belated update on this …
Got some new bearings from UKWG..
I fitted these by removing the bearing carrier through the access panel at the back of the machine. Fitted the new bearings with a big hammer and a couple of pieces of wood. Then spent many hours struggling to get the bearing carrier back-in, get the bolt holes lined up and bolted-up. Needed to put the machine on its sides and on its front to try to do this. I did it in the end, but I figure it would have been a lot less hassle to take the drum out from the front (a more normal approach)..Thanks..
