(EDIT) It’s gone again! 🙁 please see second post.

((It has repaired itself for the moment, so you don’t need to read my original post below!! 🙂 All I did was poke around a lot and take the timer assembly (together with a relay) out briefly. I’m just leaving the post here for reference and in case it goes again. Thanks for looking anyway!! :D))

Many thanks for taking a look 🙂 I have a Scandinova ff6745D fridge freezer which is fine freezer-wise but the fridge is room temp. This is a dual compressor system (using R134a), the freezer is apparently frost-free by eye (although I haven’t left it off for more than 20 mins to take a good look with the cover off) and the fan in the freezer compartment is working fine. The thermostat dial for the freezer switches one compressor on and off (and the larger compressor is warm), however the dial for the fridge has no effect on the compressor although is does serve to switch fridge off completely when both dials (freezer and fridge) are set to zero – the smaller compressor which I assume is for the fridge is cold.

Can anyone advise how I can distinguish between a thermostat and a compressor/pump failure? Many thanks for taking the time and please help – my kitchen is becoming ripe!! 🙁

    :rolls:

Just updating this for any advice/comments and also for others searching in future. Problem was as stated above. After taking off the plastic case in the freezer to inspect the fan and eliminate the possibility of excessive ice build up(switched off for around 20 mins/half an hour) and inspecting the timer/relay and switching thermostats on/off a few times, the fridge started to work again full blast down to zero and the second compressor warmed up and I smiled and made my way to bed suspecting that this might not last. It didn’t 🙁 Warm fridge again today. I have just taken the relay out for inspection (i.e. to work out what it actually was!) and switched the top thermostat off and on a couple of times and it’s kicked back into life, but I suspect not for long. I suspect this is a thermostat on the way out, but I’m unsure – can anyone advise? Help much appreciated!

    Many thanks,

    Jezz

Gone again – should I order a thermostat on the basis of the above – please advise (what is the likelihood of the relay being at fault or even whatever starts the compressor motor)?

    Many thanks in advance

OK, in the absence of a response so far, I’ve decided to replace the ‘stat, only the original part is not in stock at espairs, so I’m going to go with a generic Ranco VT9 and hoping for the best. Any advice before I do? Please?
