Mike. That was my thought Mike, some mixed messages from BSH group there 😯 Washing at 60deg instead of 40 will increase your kwhr per load by 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} or so…thats a huge demand increase across the country 😯
Base load capacity is going to shrink over the coming years so somethings got to give 😕

Oh well, never mind. Those wind up torches are getting cheaper and cheaper, soon they’ll be 2 for a pound. Maybe they’ll bring out a wind-up washing machine soon 😆 .
Although, I suppose you could say that a lot of the present crop are a bit of a wind up.
Think I heard something about the Severn barrage being shelved again too.

Washing at the correct temperature and maintenance washes saves throwing out clothing and machines.
I wouldn’t get too hung up on the energy use as not doing it can cost more on the flipside.

True enough, Kenneth.
What bugs me is the way so much was made (and continues to be made) about energy saving appliances as if we were going to “save the planet” (= save ourselves) by opting for them. It’s only slightly less daft than the “scrappage scheme” for cars as an “environmental” measure.

Ran our machine (‘donated’ AEG LW1050) through a 30deg and 40 deg wash last night with a plug in power meter attatched.
Total consumption 0.61kwh on the 30deg and 0.80kwh on the 40deg. 😯
So, fairly predictable 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase in energy use, clothes seemed clean enough on both cycles though. Our machine does whiff a little though I’ll admit 🙂

0.19Kwh = (roughly) 1.8p
250 washes per year (UK average) = £4.50 per year
In perspective, the percentage figure of 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} is bog all in the grand scheme of things. It is misleading however.
I’d much rather have the performance and save myself from smelling like two day old clothes or having to re-wash or, chucking stuff out because it’s a bit grubby looking.
I think my plan to save chucking stuff out is cheaper than saving on the leccy bill. I also think my plan is more environmentally sound. 😉
You are totally correct Mike in both premises, it’s just a stupid argument to make in the first place and a scrappage scheme is nothing more than a shot in the arm to retailers and manufacturers.
AMDEA wants one for appliances in the UK.
Hell will be a skating rink before that happens methinks. Not that I had anything whatsoever to do with their failure or any knowledge thereof.
