    Hi all,

Went to this machine this eve for a look as it wasn’t spinning. Checked the brushes and they were completely worn. Changed them and it still wouldn’t spin but it would start to spin for about 1 second and then the power seems to get cut to the motor and thats all it’ll do, I didn’t have time to investigate more but I’m going back tmro and was wondering if these w/ms have timer problems as she told me after that it was doing that before and also it would sometimes just go into a constant pumping mode regardless of what programme she would select. Any info would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

Check cable connections are tight first before condemning timer, have had that problem before & found loom connections broke. I always clean motor armature & end of new brush with fine emery paper when fitting them.

    Thanks Seamy,

The armature was a bit clogged, but like yourself I always give it a clean up before fitting the brushes. And the connections seemed ok at the time time although I wasn’t specifically looking for a problem there. I’ll be back later and I’ll check them and then go at the wiring.

    Cheers again

Probably not the cause but did you meg the heater ? as i went to a beko that would not spin or take in water .. it would turn the drum but not spin..heater checked ok with resistance but failed with insulation test.

Once heater was disconnected it worked fine so now replacing heater.Like i said probably not the problem but it’s worth checking before condemning anything.

Just looked at that machine again, The tacho coil is goosed! So I’ll have to wait to get one of them. The only problem is that the magnet is also cracked and it doesn’t look like a replacable part as its bonded onto a brass ring. Could I just glue the magnet back or will it mess up the new coil?

    Hi Dave,

I had success gluing a tacho magnet that was cracked not so long ago i used some of the araldite rapid steel and it worked so you might get lucky like me 😉

    Hey Shaun,

Cheers for the tip about araldite rapid steel. I was just going to use bog standard araldite, as I’d not heard of rapid steel, and I wasn’t as hopeful as I might have been. But that stuff sounds like a better proposition altogether. I’m off down to Hal@#*ds now to pick some up.
Won’t get my tacho til next week but I’ll keep you in the loop.

    Cheers

    Hi Dave,

Just to add you only need to mix a little bit at a time that way you won’t waste it ..Also i left mine over nite to make sure it had set good and proper .. It’s worth a shot for the sake of a fiver i only used a smidgen to seal the crack so got loads left for any future cracked magnets i come across 😉

    Re: beko wma520

Well, Glued the magnet and left it overnight to set and popped it back in the machine and hey presto, it worked. But after putting it on to spin three times to make sure, it cut out again, magnet cracked again in a new place so it must have been more damaged than i thought on first inspection.
However, I rang a guy I know from Beko and he has a motor that I can have for thirty bucks.
So I’ll have it up and running tmro without the worry of a call back.
    Everyday’s a school day.
Ta shaun and everyone else for the help.
