ParticipantHi folks, some advice needed please. I have a Liebherr side by side fridge freezer on its way and wanted to plan the plumbing before it arrives. The installation manual shows that it comes with a 1.5m hose with 3/4 tap connectors on either end. This will not be long enough to reach my nearest water supply so I will need to plumb in some additional piping.
My plan was to use a plastic “Y adapter” on the current spur which feeds the washing machine. Will this work or is there a danger that the water from the washing machine feed could go down the freezer supply line leading to a tainted water taste from the rubber hose used on the washing machine? The alternative is to add a second spur on the feed to the cold tap but there is very little space to do this so I would prefer not to.
I then need to use a maximum of 15mm copper pipe due to space restrictions but I have not been able to find the male connector to connect to the 3/4 tap connector on the hose supplied from Liebherr. Can anyone advise what connector is required and where I can get one from. also is there a smaller bore pipe that would be suitable?
Thanks for your help,
Mike

Hi Mike,
You can extend beyond the 1.5M given for an inlet easily, the only issue you can face is if the water pressure is really low, like very. Outside that, there’s no problem.
If it’s the usual SBS with ice and water it is (if I recall) designed to connect to a standard 3/4 BSP connection which is a standard appliance connection, washer, dishwasher, it doesn’t matter so a “Y” adaptor should work just fine. The only problem I have with them is their ability to break, buy a decent one.
Drawing from the same supply as the washer is not an issue, it’s mains water just the same. And, in any case, the water for ice and chilled water are filtered anyway so it doesn’t matter.
You can use whatever hose you like so long as the temperature requirements are met which, in most centrally heated homes where the ambient meets the climate ratings for the fridge freezer, it is not a concern.

Hi thanks for the reply.
My problem now has been finding a 15mm flexi hose with a 3/4 tap connector on it! I want to use a 1.5m flexi hose to go past the back of the washing machine and connect to a 15mm copper pipe along the skirting board at the side of the washing machine to which I can fit a washing machine type connector for the Liebherr hose to connect to.
There seems to be a distinct lack of 15mm hoses with 3/4 tap connectors. Might have to use a 22mm flexi hose with a reducing connector to connect it to the 15 mm pipe. Just seems like a lot of different connectors. Given 3/4 is standard appliance fitting and 15mm is standard mains water feed I would have expected a bigger selection. Only perfect hose I could find was a washing machine hose and I was tld it was not suitable for drinking water.

Rather than use a standard hose you could use the flexi hose that plumbers use and just add the connectors that you desire.
