Diplomat 8242 unable to starting cycle

I have the above model dishwasher and am unable to get the appliance started. The light is flashing on the programme, but I am unable to select a programme, the light just keeps flashing as if finished last cycle. I have tried a reset but this does not seem to work. I have found previously that if you restart a cycle when dishwasher has recently finished the previous cycle, and is still hot/steaming it selects the new cycle ok and selected programme light stays on. I can then turn pwer off and when ready to do a new cycle it works fine. But…. the other day i did not catch it in time and am now unable to start the machine cycle. The flashing programme light does not flash in any given pattern, and the only beep is if you turn the power off and then on again, and thats just 2 tiny beeps as normal.
Can anyone help? I have come accross a few similar questions on here, but each one is unanswered.
