    Hi

My machine had the problem with the continually rotating control knob … the drum wasn’t draining and the light was flashing 5 times between each pause. I loosened the filter at the bottom and drained all the water (there was a lot!), and now the machine has successfully completed a full wash cycle. When the machine was draining it did sound like there was something loose (and matallic) rattling inside somewhere. When I drained the filter I wasn’t able to pull it out to check for objects – is the filter supposed to be removed for this purpose?! If so, do you have any tips as to how best to do with this without sheer brute force and/or a breakage?…

    Many thanks in advance,

    Vicky

Hi, yes the filter should come right out for cleaning purposes.

It’s very likely that something has become jammed in there and will almost certainly be the cause of the control knob rotating and not draining.

If you “wiggle” the filter around a bit it should eventually come out and reveal what ever got stuck in there in the first place.

If you do have to break the filter they aren’t too expensive from memory, although I would need the full model number to confirm.

    Hope this helps.

    Dave.

    Re: Ariston Margherita 2000!

    Hi Dave

Thanks for the tip – the filter came out as you suggested, and I am now 26p better off!

However, I have run the machine on another cycle and am having the same problem in that the cycle has stopped mid way through and the light is flashing 5 times again.

Any idea what this may be, and if it is something I can fix. Or do I need to ask someone who knows what they are doing to come and have a look at it?

    Thanks for your advice,

    Vicky

    Vicky,

The problem is still associated to a drain outlet hose blockage or pump problem. Do check the pump/filter again. Make sure the little pump impellor is free to rotate in any direction, I suspect it is jammed with more coins 😉

    Re: Ariston Margherita 2000!

    Hi Martin

Have checked the filter thing at the front again – no more coins (but plenty more water!), and it rotates smoothly and freely. How do I check the drain outlet hose?? It is quite thin – can you feel if it is blocked from the outside, and if it is, how do I unblock it (or is is better just to replace it?).

    Thanks for your help,

    Vicky

    Vicky,

Hey! no need to get too involved here. You say the pump is clear, the impellor rotates freely…right?

OK, Just put the machine on a ‘drain only’ cycle. You should hear the pump working for a couple of minutes then switch off. If it does that, then reset the machine on a ‘rinse & spin’ …It should fill, tumble then drain out and spin.

    Report back please!

    Re: Ariston Margherita 2000!

    Hi Martin

Have tried what you suggested…but no luck I’m afraid, the pump worked for a couple of minutes as you said it would but the rinse & spin cycle caused the programme selector knob to rotate continuously again (with 5 light flashes between each interval as before). The filter unit is definitely clear and moves freely – unless things can get blocked further inside?

    Any ideas?!

    Ta very much,

    Vicky

    Re: Ariston Margherita 2000!

    Vicky, try this:

Turn the washer off, then turn the dial to any black dot. Now turn the washer on and you should see the power indicator light flash 3 times. On the third flash turn washer off again and select a wash programme. Turn the washer on again and after a couple of seconds the machine should start.

That’s the whole reset procedure, if that doesn’t work there is something else wrong and you will probably need an engineer to call, you can try the directory on the left or let us know the first part of your postcode, someone here may be able to help further with a visit.

Hi Dave – have tried this but it didn’t work unfortunately. Have arranged for an engineer to visit next week so I’ll post the outcome then!

    Thanks again,

could be a pressure switch problem 5 flashes = pump blocked p/switch jammed on full
does the washer fill when prog selected?
if it does is water level a lot higher than normal?

    Re: Ariston Margherita 2000!

It’s not been a good couple of weeks, the vacuum packed in (apparently the dust was too much for it?), the fridge door fell of (badly designed hinges) and now the washer/dryer has packed in (out of sympathy?).

It just won’t start the wash programme. I’ve tried following the other advice about the AWD12 on this site (the best bit of advice would probably have been buy something else), but so far no luck. I’ve tried emptying the filter, no money in there only a collar stiffener, the pump spins freely, I’ve turned the dial to off and switch off on the 3rd flash and tried the programme again, nothing. I’ve managed to get it to run a spin cycle and finish of it own accord but I can’t get it to wash anything!

Any suggestions or is there any more information that I may be able to post that may help?

    Re: Ariston Margherita 2000!

It sounds as if it’s not filling with water, can you hear a humming sound when you try and start it ?

Also, the lamp should flash x number of times, then pause, then flash again the same number, sometimes this can help.

    Dave.
