ParticipantGot top go out to this washer later and any ideas would be appreciated.
Was working perfect here .. put on test .. repaired .. put on test again… all ok.
Customer bought it but took it themselves in their car .. phoned this morning to say that it fills, and washes.. wash seems short, motor spins but only for about 2 seconds then stops..
Any ideas?

ParticipantThey may have shoved the outlet hose too far down into the standpipe causing syphoning.

Yep, definitely sounds like that. That’s probably why you found it dumped 😉 . What repair did you do on it?

Mike.Nah.. This one wasn’t a scrapper… It was a PX i took in after I went out to repair it and the woman fancied a replacement new machine at £245 rather than the cost of a replacement pump + labour. She said it was looking a bit dated. All that was wrong with the machine was that the impellor kept popping off the pump motor shaft. I tested it.. I replace the pump for a new one.. put it on test again with a full wash, then sold it.
But will definately check the tacho when it gets here.

Went to look at this… Everything seems ok except motor spin… Sometimes will spin if you take belt off and programmer set to short spin .. however, put it onto long spin an it will not.. it just gives short bursts and it seems to shudder when attempting to ramp up speed.
There is no damage around the motor but there are water marks on the programmer board.
Can’t find my TDS disk… Does anyone know the resistance readings of the tacho for this model please?

Actually, it looks like it uses a hybrid timer (?). Ako 513316?
Look at http://www.emwelec.co.uk and see common faults with that timer.

Had another look at the motor using the details you sent Mike, thanks for those.
Tacho reading ok.. Stator reading ok.. Rotor should be reading 2.28 +/- 7{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} but is reading 4.4.
What if anything would the high Rotor reading cause?

Talking off the top of my head and having never seen such a problem, I’d be surprised if a rotor could be pinned down to such a specific resistance under anything less than laboratory conditions. If brushes are long and commutator clean, I’d be inclined to think that was a red herring.
(Hmm. Is that measured through the brushes or direct across opposite segments? Might be significant if the latter.)

Yes, low resistance is more of a worry on the armature as it could mean shorted turns. There is a rare type of motor fault though where it spins fine without the belt but lacks the torque to turn the drum. Something to do with eddy currents apparently. I know it’s a bind but if you don’t have the correct Electrolux group generic motor to try as a substitute for testing purposes you can often jury rig a motor from a different make using a set of leads with male spade one end and female spade the other. Once you have made up such a set of wires they will come in handy for similar elimination checks in the future.

Does it turn a load of washing at normal tumble speed? If so, I would think the armature is fine. Only thing I’ve had anything like Phidom describes, and not unusual, is motor attempting to turn a load of washing but unable to find the torque, so it judders then stops until the next attempt. That was usually the armature on Hotpoint 95’s and Hoover Logics but could sometimes be the module and occasionally the timer contacts. My guess is you’ve bought yourself a scrapper 🙁 .

Is it the model with the timer and module combined? If so i have had several of these over the years and nearly always timer/module fault. As stated above by leavemetogetonwithit (great name )see EMW. They do an exchange unit at a reasonable cost which uses better components.
