Overfilling and the pressure switch has some kind of restrictor in the connector.
I’ve never seen this before and have fitted a new one without the restrictor.
Is this normal and will the new p/sw be ok?
Thanks

😕
Is this restrictor in the top of the plastic hose or inside the pressure switch?

It’s inside the tube on the switch. At first I thought it was a blockage.November 18, 2010 at 4:15 pm #336332iadom

Can’t say I’ve every seen one but I haven’t looked that closely.
It shouldn’t cause any real problems, they used to be used a lot on dishwashers to prevent the pressure switch opening when the circulation pump first kicks in.
The old Hotpoint 1800/9500 series had them inserted inside the top of the pressure hose as well. Removing them never caused any real problems, may have allowed them to fill with an odd pint or two more.

Thanks Jim,
Somehow I thought you would respond but didn’t want to disrespect anyone else on here.

All the WMA’s I’ve stripped to change the bearings have all had the restrictor in the switch. This is the only time I’ve looked that close at them.
As long as you fiited a new WMA switch I can’t believe it would be a problem. Theres no way you could easily get the restrictor out of the old switch.

I fitted one for a WD440 without a restrictor but it seemed to perform ok.(fingers crossed) Funny thing, I have just found a p/sw 1604008 I’ve had a few years and it’s got one in. Never noticed before.

I think the restrictor damps the sensitivity of the switch which can otherwise cause the valve to kick in briefly when the drum turns.

Mike,
I noticed that for a few turns but does it keep on throughout the wash?
You pick up things every day on UKW.
Thanks

RobI would doubt it. When the level of water rises a little the pressure on the switch will be more constant.

Just at the beginning of the wash normally. I noticed it years ago when I did re-cons. Had a 95* that was doing it incessantly. Took me a long time to figure out that there was no restrictor in the tube. I didn’t know it was there inside the switches these days. I don’t know why it is but these 14 years I’ve been in Cornwall I’ve not needed to change more than a handful of p/switches. I wonder if it’s something to do with air quality or humidity (having some inhibitory effect on the sparking at contacts)? Come to think of it, door locks never go on the main contacts here either :?. With no limescale either, we washing machine men have a tough time of it down here. Thank the universe for electronics .

Until the advent of the cheapo switches used by Indesit etc it was rare to change them round here either, still don’t change that many TBH.
