Dishwasher fault

I have a Hoover dishwasher HND615 and when i start the programme it starts filling it only fills for a few seconds and then it tries to wash. This carries on until the water has reached its level,it then must have overfilled because then emptys for a couple of seconds and then starts washing.At the end of the programme water is left in the bottom of the machine and leaving the pots wet.
