cleaned up armature with w&d and a sharp knife, works amazingly effectively considering how gunked up it was…
thing is this…
since found out the motor is already a service replacement. it was replaced under a bsh authorised engineer 15 months ago, and 23 months into the machines life.
original problem was machine would not turn, fault traced to sticking carbons, which implies it was the original usual cartridge type bosch motor, not the ceset type…
thing is i replaced carbons in identical orientation of the original carbons on the ceset, and it works. but this is where it gets odd. the hi-speed “primary” rotation (i.e rampign to full spin) seems to grind against the angle of the chamfer, whereas the the lo-speed “reverse” action seems to go with the chamfer, i would have thought it was supposed to be the other way round, and would the friction generated by this cause the melting of the holders?
if it helps ive stylised pics….

basically would i be right in thinking maybe the original bosch terminals on the motor connections live and neutral were the other way round or is the current orientation of carbons correct ????

No! It’s an AC motor. And on your primary/reverse rotation theory then no matter what direction the motor rotates there will always be one ‘leading edge’ carbon and one ‘trailing edge’ carbon.
The more likely reason the motor carbon brush holders have melted is due to too much strain put on it through over usage and/or the pump/drain hose is gunged up and takes ages for the water to get pumped away. That puts enormous strain on the motor during the earlier lower speed spin sequence as the water is not getting away quick enough.
BSH machines are notoriously bad when it comes to the drain hose system getting gunged up. Blocked arteries lead to heart attacks, gunged up drain hoses burn out motors. 😉

hey martin, machine is as clean as a whistle, and when i went out to it, i thought yippee, belt thrown or blocked filter, as it wasnt spinning… so first thing i did was look for blocked pump sump filter & p/sw tubes. waste is on a standpipe and not kinked. admittedly havent looked inside waste hose but spose its possible its blocked? will check that out when i go back with motor.
defo not over used – middle aged couple, max 3 loads a week.machine looks pristine…

oh i know that, my concern was that watching the motor during the spin cycle to bed in the carbons, it was noticeable the fast spins were always in the same direction of rotation, and reverse actions were always slower, but as per diagram the slow ones seemed to “go with” the chamfer and fast spins go against it. its nagging at me because wen i looked at an amica with a leaky solenoid dripping over the motor, i remember watching the opposite happen to the motor, where the fast spins would “go with” the chamfer. does this make sense? also it didnt make the screeching scratching sound when bedding in, more a clack clack clack sound…
its just assuming the waste isnt blocked, i get the feeling i havent sourced the reason for the carbons to have overheated, and as this has been a sod of a job, really dont want to be going back in a years time with the same issue.
