    Dear Everyone,

We have a Diplomat 8234 which was already installed in our house by a low-budget builder when we bought it. It worked fine for 6 months and then started with error messages. From memory, it was E2 and E3. It didn’t always empty. Then the display panel started becoming unreadable.

To start, does anyone know who makes this? Is it a rebadged SMEG (which someone earlier suggested another Diplomat is)? Can I contact the manufacturer?

Our instruction manual does not explain the error messages. Does anyone have an instruction manual that includes them? Could you possibly email it to me?

I’ve since dismantled the door of the machine and removed the circuit board. It looks like my family had inadvertently got some chocolate ice-cream into the (surprisingly unsealed) space between the cover and the door, and over the circuit board. It may well work properly though.

So, I’d appreciate your tips. I’d like to get hold of a circuit board and try it again. Or get a specialist who can diagnose it for me.

    My post code is HU14.

    Regards,

    Matthew

You need to contact MFI, if it was installed by a builder it’s likely the supplier was actually Howdens. But it is, in effect sold by MFI and you can reach them on 08457 959722 or you can try the directories here as many of the guys do specialise in these appliances.

As to the error messages I will post them all up in the next few days, but, as I am always telling people, they only tell you where to start looking for the fault and not the specific failure.

These machines are actually okay and the most likely failure is the fill chamber being blocked, but to clear or replace that I would suggest an engineer.

    Dear Kwatt,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Could you let me know where you’ll poste the error messages.

Do you think it’s worthwhile me getting hold of a circuit board and replacing it and seeing what happens? (That’s not too hard a job).

And where do I find a local specialist? No one’s replied to the message offering their services (!)

    Many thanks,

    Matthew

I can help with a company who will carry out a repair for you, they are Hubys Domestic Appliances.

    Website for contact: http://www.hubys.com/

Don’t order a control board, they are in excess of £100 and it may not be that.

Call Hubys they should be able to sort it out for you. Ask for Jason and tell him I gave you the details 😉

    Dave.

    Hi Matthew,

I’ll post the codes in the articles section but I have to first recieve permission to do so from MFI, copyright and all that malarky. I have asked MFI for permission to do so and am awaiting a reply from them.

MFI are a reasonable and customer orientated company and I don’t see there being an issue, but I’ve got to go through the motions. However we will only be able to reproduce the error code explanations as supplied with the handbook, which I may be able to expand on a bit but, as I keep saying, error codes only give you a clue of where to start looking for the fault, they very rarely tell even us what the fault actually is.

Huby’s is worth a call though, Jason is a really nice guy and they will do a good job for you.

    K.

Could be worth looking at this page for your control panel.

    http://www.qer.biz/Lists/CREDIT_LIST_MODEL_1.html

I have the same model (built in by Persimmon Homes – useless) and we have had nothing but trouble. The fact that these machines only cost £250 and an engineer with cost £130 approx. Then frankly you might be better off just buying a new one.

    😀 Rgds
