ParticipantEvenin’ all,
Anyone got one of these?
I’m looking for a new van at the moment and thinking of getting one of these on contract hire.
Are they a decent van ( I know the Boxer is a badgered version and seems well popular) and is the contract hire the best bet. I like the maintenance angle, cos I’ve always hated days out for repairs, mots etc.π

KeymasterCome up with a model, spec etc. and I’ll see what I can do. I have had some success with this in the past. π

I had a 2.5 diesel and the MPG was only 24 on a good day. The HDI engine is better but the service back up from Citreon was terrible.
Actually spent more time off the road waiting for citreon to get spares than was worth it. Crap service and all round a crap van.
I had plenty of trouble with the suspensions leaking fluid and the gearbox / clutch. Would not buy another one.The TDCI engines from Ford are much improved and the Connect and the Transit i now run are spot on and both return well over 35 mpg. Reliable too.

I have been driving Citroen vehicles (cars that is – Drive a Vauxhall Astra Van) now for almost 20 years. Currently have a Citroen C5 which is fine. BUT I did have problems with it a short while back and happened across the local service Manager for Reg Vardy Citroen. At the time I was in his house fixing his tumble dryer, and happened to enquire what he did for a living etc etc.
I then told him of my slight problem with the car and he admitted that at present Citroen UK were in dire straights over servicing due to the lack of spare parts. Spare parts supply from France to the UK is the main problem and they have been experiencing this situation for months and months.
Later he said it would be probably as long as 5 weeks in getting the part for my motor (that was in March) and the part arrived 3 weeks ago, so it actually took 13 weeks.
So, Citroen vehicles?…………..there fine, but buy 2 so you have a spare one when the other is laid up! π

KeymasterSo what we’re saying is that it should be called a Citreon Delay. π π

KeymasterThe Renault Trafic/Vauxhaul Whatever They Call It gets decent reviews as well and a couple of the guys on here seemed well impressed with them.

I ran Berlingos for 6 years and on the whole very good, except front tyres.
Moved to new Transit connects, on a 3 year deal including all servicing etc. Engineers love them.
Will let you know in the next 6 years. They may well outlive me!!!

I cannot understand that Alex, I had a rented connect while my Dispatch was being fixed and it felt like going back to the dark ages. Reminded of me of the days of the Beford viva vans! No one who drove it ever wanted to even sit in one again.
As for the Relay, I have no experience as its a bit of a big beast isnt it? But we have never had any serious issues with either Berlingos or dispatches, (touching wood) and I guess, like our trade, the service depends on how good the local agent is. And, as with anything French, just dont keep it too long (that includes girlfriends)July 29, 2004 at 9:52 pm #114583Ally

Iβve said this before, but take a look at the Renault traffic. This is one serious machine. Three times a week Glasgow to Edinburgh Iβve seen 110 on the clock. I donβt want to boast but 125 comes up with ease with a tail wind. At this speed you can still hold a normal conversation with the passenger (Co Pilot) Ken will bear me out on this Iβm a bit of a nutter when it comes to speed !! drive a bloody motorbike as well. This donβt mean I drive fast in and around suburbia. Iβm as slow as everyone else but on the motorway I believe the world is your oyster until you get caught.

Ally,
Is that the new Vivaro/ Trafic or the old style. The new one is pretty but is it practical. I’ve heard from a vauxhall friend of mine that they blow engines for fun πDepends how you drive it then, ey? π

KeymasterYeah Ally, it’s a Scottish thing I think…
Fast smooth A-roads with a few interesting twists in them and no bloody speed cameras! π They really hacked me off with the one on the Rest.
But yeah, I rate the current crop of Renault’s, cars and vans since I have a few. Plus I can get a decent deal on them as well. π

Just to put my point if I may.
Over the past few years I have had a Fiat Ducato, the 1.9 deisl. The first one a woman drove right at the drivers door while I was driving. π₯ π₯ I was like 007 shaken but not stirred 8) 8)
Any way the door was pushed into at least the seat the front wheel was wrenched off and the van was totalled. I had another Ducato and although not as good it like the other one did not let me down.
Now I have a Fiat Scudo 1.9 another decent bit if kit, coming up for its first service at 14k miles very economical and superb to drive and handle. Its loaded full of stock as well. and it is darn quick π π
Points 10/10 brill π π

We used to run 3 turbo versions of these and one straight theyn were great vans and the turbos were silly fast !!
When I needed a bigger van I went for a Transit swb 2.0 diesel TDCI ,Came with six free services at 15,000 intervals bearing in mind I do approx 25k a year I thought this was agood deal ,
It runs like a dream and goes plenty fast enough for meLawrence
