Our 10-year old Hoover Optima frost-free fridge, model number unknown, has lately been oozing sticky gunk from the freezer compartment housing on the left side (facing the fridge), producing a horrendous sci-fi effect of elastic webbing whenever the freezer door is opened. Could it be that the insulation material is melting? The corresponding side of the fridge feels quite hot to the touch. Generally, the fridge and freezer appear to be working normally. I’m worried that there may be some disaster waiting to happen – e.g., food being poisoned; fire about to break out; etc.. Has there been any other experience of this problem? What best to do?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Insulation is failing, condenser pipes often are routed through the cabinet walls to prevent condensation from freezer so thats what will feel hot.
End of it’s useful life,it will just get progressively worse.Time to go shopping.

Thanks for advice. Underscored by accident. Sorry. Strange that insulation should fail after relatively few years. Surely the material should have been more stable. Seems a shame to dump the fridge, which is still in perfect working order, except for what seems mainly an aesthetic and clean-up problem at this stage…..
