I know there is already quite a stir on another thread but surely this deserves one of it’s own?

Like most guys on here, I started my self employment the hard way working evenings and weekends, gaining knowledge whenever and wherever I could (yes even from my employer at the time), gradually working up enough of a customer base to the point that if I began to advertise and risk losing my paid employment then I wouldn’t be out on my ear or my family would go hungry.
    It’s been a struggle at times I don’t mind admitting but I got there…

And that was despite the difficulty in firstly getting accounts with suppliers but also the manufacturers complete disregard for the one-man-band in giving absolutely no trade discount for spares, and a total refusal to provide any technical information whatsoever….it was like having a hand tied behind one’s back when genuinely trying to help a customer.

Fast forward to now…..at last something may be about to change! This may only be a small flame at the end of the tunnel and it will take and great deal of combined effort to fan that flame IMO…the manufacturers for example are sure to resist change but this has the potential to be as earth moving as the demise of the MRRP system with all aspects of this industry being affected.

From my point of view I say…

    BRING IT ON!

We’ll wait and see what happens… I myself requested that OFT investigate Comet for restrictive practices under the monopoly rules two weeks ago and I am awaiting an outcome. I sent all correspondance sent and received to OFT at their request after I reported the refusal of Comet to release Tech Info of their own brands to the trade.
