Got this one where the motor runs wild back and forth for 2 revolutions then stops where ever it is, wash distribute or spin. Tried a taco to no avail so it has to be the timer, right?
Also what’s the reading for the taco meant to be?

Tacho resistance 223Ω.
A strange one for sure. Is the magnet tight on the end of the armature shaft?
I have seen the thin wiring from the tacho wear through on the front of the motor causing this, is there any sign of this on the displaced tacho?
If it reverses quickly when set to the spin cycle it could point to the timer, not something I have encountered though. ❓

Thanks for the info Jim.
I even tried another tacho and both read ok and the wiring is fine. It seems to do the two spins wherever it’s set in a way like the wash sequence with a pause in between. I did suspect the timer but wanted to check out my tachos first.
Timer it will be.

Jogged my memory………. 😯
I had a recon WM series do this years ago – couldn’t find the problem for ages. The motor would run as if it was going to spin then stop. It would then try to turn the other way, do the same fast turn and stop.
Traced the fault to the zip tie that holds the motor loom to the body. The hole that the zip tie passes through had a burr that had made a small tear in the tacho wiring insulation and was intermittently touching the body (earth). The tacho signal to the timer was effected by this ‘short’. Moved and reconnected the wire and all OK. Also check the Rast plug on these motors for broken wiring as it exits the plug.Hope that helps,

Tried that and all ok so it’s the timer.
I have several WM timers and these people are over 80 so don’t want to run the bill up. Are there any major differences between these timers with different codes and could I swap one in and all be well?

Idealy you want one with the same 904 number but if you find one with a similar number and the connections match you might get away with it.

I often wonder about the OAP’s who say, “I don’t want to buy a new one at my time of life.”
First of all, they’re very likely to outlast another two machines, the way things are built these days. Secondly, if they have the money, they can’t take it with them. If they don’t have the money, they could probably get help from the state.
I guess a lot don’t wish to be a burden; usually the ones who’ve contributed most in the past.
