ParticipantHi all, 7 year old machine has recently become noisy when spinning; seems to be coming from the motor as when I disconnect the drive belt can still hear the noise. Could it be brushes worn out or maybe a bearing problem? Also noticed it doesn’t spin as fast as it should, so clothes not as dry as usual.
TIA for any help,

Why not take the motor off and check brushes?

Would worn brushes cause the noise and lack of top speed Chris?

They could but if it is really noisy then the armature commutator may be damaged, if so its new motor time. 😥

At about £230 for a new motor, I think not! I can get a Classixx 1200 for £299 including free delivery.
Good to know that ripoff Britain is alive and kicking when it comes to buying spare parts

Erm, this is a German company, if you think that is bad I wouldn’t look at Miele spares prices, another German manufacturer. :rolls:
Have you actually had a look at the brushes yet?
PS. A Sub £300 Bosch will be a pale imitation of the machine you have. 😉

So you’re saying the WAE24165GB is not up to much then?

No washing machine under £450 is really ‘up to much’. :rolls:
Lets just say its better than most in the same price range but it is still very much a budget machine.

You can pick up a motor for much less if indeed you have the worse case
scenario. You either need to take the motor out and take a look or get someone to
do it for you.If this is the first time you have had a motor problem then it is almost certainly down to the brushes
…..the latest machines are lucky to last 2-3 years before changing.A tenner to fix if you DIY and buy laminated quality brushes
You are lucky to have an older Bosch machine of sufficient build quality
and significant life expectancy. To get the build quality you have at the moment would require the purchase
of a more expensive model -to get 10 years probably towards a grand and
5 years about half that I guess…..(Miele/ISE/Siemens/Bosch etc)December 4, 2010 at 11:06 pm #337904keybored

Old brushes look ok; about a centimetre left. Ordered some new ones so will give that a go, oh and please, spare me the :rolls: :rolls: :rolls:

Gladly, as long as you stop quoting Rip off Britain when you actually purchased a German machine.
PS. Those brushes are well worn. Look closely at the ends of the brushes, they should be shiny.
PPS. This machine used two different types of motor, one Bosch the other FHP. totally different motors and brushes.

The drive pulley end bearing can get a bit dry and it ‘sounds’ like that is the trouble. The bearing cannot be replaced but if you run a little 3in1 oil into the bearing whilst rotating the pulley by hand then often as not your problem will be solved…… 😀
