Model : DWF 64SSE
Hi – our dishwasher appears to be broken and is showing what I think is an error code, however referencing the manual does not indicate what the problem could be. The washer appears to start the cycle OK and I can hear water pumping in and out, then the thing just halts, beeps and the “Prewash” and “wash” lights are illumated and stay on 🙁
I know from looking at the other posts that diagnosis can be hard from these codes, but any assistance would be appreciated.

Mark, can you let us know from left to right which lights stay on permanently and which one’s flash – i.e. furthest left = no. 1 etc.
As you rightly say, even though we should be able to identify what the fault code is, it is rarely a good diagnostic tool, merely an engineer’s guide.

Hi,
thanks for the reply, the machine has four lights in a row that represent the various staeges of washing. The machine seams to halt with the two left most lights remaining on permanently – the fault/error seams to occur in the pre-wash stage if that is of any help.Thanks

two left most lights = No 1 and No 2
I checked the manual and this “error” is not listed….

As you say, that fault code does not exist, even in the Smeg technical publication.
It may well be a pcb error in that case, you can try resetting the electronics, like this:
Open the door (keep the door open all the time until you get to “close the door” instruction).
Switch off the d/w using the on/off switch.
Switch the d/w on again.
Within 2 seconds, push the start/pause button 4 times.
Now all the lamps will be on.
Switch off the dishwasher, keeping its door open.
Close the door
Switch on again
Select a program from the timer.If that doesn’t work, time to call an engineer to verify that the pcb may be faulty.

thanks for the help so far – tried to follow the instructions below but our washer doesn’t have a “close door instruction” as far as I’m aware (no mention of it in manual either).Anyway – did everything else, and basically after pressing the start button twice all four indicator lights flash. Now when I restart he thing it begins the program, but then halts again with a different error being indicated 🙁 This time the three right most lights (No 2, No 3 and No 4) are illuminated…..Once again a combinatgion not listed in the manual.. Any ideas what could be wrong this time ?

Mark, i think that was a typo on daves part, he was just trying to emphasise not to shut the door until HE gave you the instruction to do so a few lines further down.
Re read what he said and try again, you need to press the start button 4 times quickly before the display lights up (or just the leds if that is all that is on your machine excuse us but there are loads of differrent versions of these and as i am in the garden I cannot look up your particular model) It may take a few attempts to get all the lights to come on as instructed so keep trying from the beginning if it doesnt first work out. Once done follow the rest of the instructions carelfully or you may well get stuck in a test programme.Re: Smeg DWF 64 Fault
Sorry – my mistake, reading it again it’s clear, just me being a bit dim . OK managed to get the lights to light up (took a few goes), restarted the thing and ….. back to original problem, thing just halts with L1 and L2 lit.
Time to call the service people 🙁 If it does need a new PCB any idea how much it should cost to fix ?

Hi,
once again thanks for all your help – I’ve now booked a service call with “careys” (found them in the directories section under my postcode). Will report on diagnosis once made so perhaps it can be of future use/reference.Note that I appear to have “enhanced” the problem now, in that as soon as I turn the thing on now it appears to be stuck in a “pumping out” mode 🙁 Tried the rest PCB trick and everything., but is constantly pumping out and I can’t stop it ….

Dishwasher fixed ! Thanks to the man from Careys it’s all up and running again. Unfortunately I couldn’t be in when he came, but he told my wife that all he needed to do was clean it !
I’m guessing he meant somewhere in the inlet/outlet system as the dishwasher was clean, and I regularly clean the filter etc as instructed in the manual (honest). Weird thing is that it still could pump water in and out, but I guess some internal safety shut off mechanism was kicking in.
Anyway thought this may be of use in case someone else out there experiences the same thing…..

He would have cleaned the labyrinth unit (metering tank) most likely. Not a job for the faint hearted 😉
