ParticipantHi,
I have a Bosch WFD 2471 washer around 5 years’ old. For the last week or so a strange noise was being emitted which sounds like it is coming from towards the bottom of the machine but only when the drum was turning in one direction, it was fine turning the other way.
As of yesterday the drum is not turning at all. You can ear the slight click as it tries to engage it but nothing at all and after sometime the washing cycle is cancelled and the door can be opened with the drum half full of water. The draining programme runs fine so guessing it’s not the pump.
I can turn the drum with the usual resistance in both directions and without any noise.
Can anyone give me any pointers on what it might be?
Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for your reply.
Is there any test I can do on the motor to make sure this is the case before ordering new brushes? I have a multimeter.
Are the generic carbon brushes okay or would you recommend using Bosch branded ones?
Thanks again for your help.

With the plug out you can check the resistance across the brushes and if o/c then you
have no contact at all…..
Bosch brushes are certainly the best but you can buy laminated ones
which are prob 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} as good for around a fiver.Sometimes the motors will get damaged when brushes fail so take the motor
out and check the commutator for any signs of scoring etc.Much easier to do the work with the motor out of the machine.

Thanks for all your help. After being messed around by one company which doesn’t know the definition of in stock I had to cancel and order from some where else but have final got the set of carbon brushes today.
I put them in the motor but one thing I did notice is that the clips which connect to them was really stuck on and hard to remove the first time. Now the clips seems to be fasten and remove much easier but if I tug the wire the carbon brush connector moves with it so I guess it’s okay. The YouTube video I was following seemed to document this behaviour although he didn’t seem to have the trouble I did removing them. Is this the norm in anyone’s experience? Should I be concerned that vibration from the spin will remove the connector?
Thanks again.

Remove the female spade connectors and squeeze it slightly with a pair of pliers.
This should enable good contact again.

The spade “clips” have a locking tab that needs to be depressed first in order to slide them off the brush terminal. If you simply force them off you then damage the locking tab putting them back on. Brute force is never a requirement when changing motor brushes. But I don’t suppose the YouTube video you referred to mentioned that small point anyway?

Thanks for your reply.
I know the tab you mean and I did depress it however it seemed very much crimped on, no movement in the slightest. They seem secure now and as secure as they are in the video but of course not as secure as they once were. What is the worst case scenario if they are damaged? A I okay to post a link to the video?
