ParticipantI have had this fridge for over ten years. The model number label is now missing. I have a matching freezer. RZ and RL 14P rings a bell but I couldn’t be certain. I can get a picture if that helps.
Today I came home and noticed that it wasn’t very cold, and it wasn’t making a noise. I turned the thermostat up to max, there was no click and no motor kicked in. The internal light is working so there is power. I belive it is over 10 years old. It has 3 wire shelves, a salad chiller, and a glass shelf. The door has egg shelf at top, then a butter compartment with sprung door, then a couple of small tray shelves, then big shelf at bottom milk etc.
Is it likely to be the thermostat, or is the motor/compressor dead. Is there a way of testing it, or as it could have been bought anywhere from 1998 to 2002 is it time to dump it.
Sorry I am so vague about the model number, but I can’t find the label, I assume it has dropped off, and god knows where the manual is.

Hi pscuk01,
if there a are no sounds from your fridge its more likley to be the thermostat that has gone faulty.simple repair.
model number can be found by opening the fridge door and looking up under the top facia.
Bob.

I now have the thermostat in my hand. I have connected the two live wires (as advised by an engineer that came through today) and the compressor started working fine. I am still none the wiser on the model of the larder fridge.
The numbers on the thermostat are H2722 3ART6VAA7 6(6)A 250V 9641 C.S. E6525 KEMA EUR AND THEN A LOAD OF LETTERS IN DIF PLACES

I have now gone to my local spares shop and bought an authentic hotpoint thermostat, and have now fitted it.
However, the fridge doesn’t seem to get as cold as it used to. Now it might be me, but if I turn up the thermostat I don’t get a click straight away, but a few minutes later the fridge will click on. When I fist installed it I turned the thermostat on and the fridge clicked into life. The compressor does come on occassionaly. Today I will get a thermometer to check the temp. I used to have the thermostat set to 2 and everything was cold, at the moment I have this set to 4.

I thought I would raise this one again. I never binned the fridge, but kept it as an emergency. I have bought yet another therostat in case the one I fitted was faulty. When I fit it there is a small piece of plastic that the end of the thermostat fits in. I am wondering is this meant to keep it up against the metal plate at the back of the fridgeor is it to keep it away but instead up against the back plastic of the fridge. I have attached a digital thermometer to the fridge and found that it is going up just above 5deg. The knob doesnt seem to click like the old one very often.

The plastic piece you refer to is to clamp the end of the thermostat sensor to the rear of the evaporator (metal plate). A universal thermostat from Ranco model VT9 or from Danfoss would do the job fine. Regarding the clicking, these are mechanical switches operated by the temperature on the metal plate, so sometimes it takes a few minutes for them to sense a change in temperature. These older fridges were designed to operate between +5 to +8C whilst the newer models operate between +2 to +5C. So to summarise, you need a good contact beween the sensor wire and the metal plate, have the right thermostat and have an operating temperature of around +5C

I was just doubtful that it was working correctly as the original thermostat used to click at around 3/4 when the fridge warms up with the door open, where as this (the 2nd one I have fitted) seems to click at 6 once, and then if you open the door and the fridge warms up it doesn’t seem to click to bring the compressor on. The temp does seem warmer tnat it used to be at 5deg. On the original thermostat the fridge would be extremely cold if I had it up to 6, bit the replacement seems to keep it at 5deg and no colder. I have also read on other sites that the Ice Diamond is odd and only the original hotpoint thermostats work correctly.
It seems strange to me that food can get as warm as 8deg and that is ok. I last year purchased a replacement fridge which is a hoover and the thermostat has also go haywire. The fridge fluctuates at the moment between below freezing, and 8 deg. I will be getting them into fix that one under warranty. I didn’t need this at Xmas..lol

Where is the fridge located in the house??

It was in the house. The old thermostat was dead so I replaced it with a new one. I then noticed that the temperature fluctuated though a much larger range to how it used to. The click on occurred when almost at max. The range seemed to fluctated between 6 deg and 0 deg, where as used to be set at 3 or 4 on the knob and stayed at around 3 deg. I then seemed to trust it very little, so I relegated it to an outhouse. I bought a new fridge, a hoover, which was fine last year, but this year when I brought it in to use it it was very irratic, so I tried my old ice diamond, but wish I hadnt. I replaced the thermostat with a new one, and it was just as bad, so I shoved it back outside in the outhouse. I should have got rid of it when it went wrong originally, and have put up with it fluctuating.
I have noticed from another post I can’t remember if it was on here or not, but it said that the Ice Diamond is peculiar and must be replace with an authentic part, not a generic otherwise it will have issues….I am not sure how true that is mind.

Hotpoint are not much help as they wont do anything without the serial number, and the fact that they use a stupid piece of sticky back plastic rather than a proper plate there is no plastic label as it has dropped off, so is there any other way to tell the model number?
