    Hi all,

Hoping someone can offer a bit of advice?, our S by S American F/F Model No 8586 154 15010 Serial No 11 0421 022406 had flashing temp displays but today we noticed that the displays have stopped working completely and my wife is concerend that the freezer is not as colsd as it was, although we are still getting a humming sound and the lights still work if you open either door?

Having looked through some of the posts I guess my question has to be “Does a defunct temp display mean that there is no temp control or does the F/F continue working at factory settings of -18C and 5C?”

    Thanks in advance

    BW

hi, can I suggest that you get 2 x cheapo fridge thermometers from somewhere like Wilko’s and put one in each compartment to check temp. Then progress from there.
I am not an engineer but have relpied because I see that you had no responses, I think if you do the above you have a start point.
Also post make of fridge freezer and how old it is if you can – there are some very knowledgable and helpful people on this site.

    creamytash,

Many thanks for taking time to comment, it’s a good suggestion. Interestingly it still seems to be working e.g. everything frozen and chilled as appropriate?

Ref type its a Wirlpool Amercian fridge freezer, approx. 9 years old. I did ring their servcie centre last week and the lady was struggling to name the part and sent me an exploded drawing and spares list; using this I think the part is a “Unit control, Light up” as it has a light at the back and controls at the front.

Call out is £90 in this neck of woods so plan to ring and get a quote for the Control unit and decide if its worth the effort or buy a new one?

    Cheers
